Yet another project

ill come help do some grunt werk…i dont mind it…or fishing wires thru walls n shit…

Well after working approx. 12-14 hours on Friday and Saturday the electrical is almost done. Replaced all wiring (straight from the breaker) to every outlet in the house (have about 3 left to do), rewired the bathroom with a light bar above what will be the medicine cabinet and an overhead light in the new closet area, added a quad outlet in the bedroom with one side switched, one side constant, put a quad outlet in the living room and a 6 outlet behind my stereo equipment, completely re-ran wiring to a new ceiling fan/light controlled completely by the switch (dimmer switch with 4-speed fan control; no dealing with a pull-chain). All wiring was done with 12-2 to ensure that no matter what some idiot may plug in in the future, it should be able to handle it (it is a rental, so you never know with some idiots out there). Any and all junction blocks were labeled A,B,C,etc and each wire was labeled with where it goes to. Wires at the breaker box were labeled with their junction box. And best of all, no more live knob and tube!!!Def. happy with how everything came out, now I just have to finish up the 3 outlets and deal with the kitchen. Oh and for the record, all of this wiring was completed without tearing out a single wall (with the exception of the bathroom). Was a major PITA and everything I did revealed more and more scary shit (circuits connected to each other, multiple outlets/lights/etc on a single circuit, burnt wires, etc); but I’m happy its done.

solid work homie!!!

Why do you have so many outlets for your home theater setup? Shouldnt you use a surge protector anyway?

I have all the main stuff (receiver, blu-ray, xbox, etc) on a surge protector, but rather than having to have 2 strips because of the small stuff like the xbox battery chargers, wii remote chargers, etc. I put in the extra outlets. The previous outlet hole was butchered so I figured I might as well just open it up more so I could get it cleaned up.

Electrical Pics. Not everything is completely buttoned up just yet:
The rats nest I found in the wall. Yes, that is like 10 gauge wires twisted and taped together (no wire nut) that run a light!!! I hate morons… lol:

Existing GFCI outlet that the lights run off of. That way everything will be ground faulted:

New switch:

New overhead light in closet area:

Dining room/bar room ceiling fan/light wiring (was later replaced with 14-3 to allow for the fan to be controlled by the light switch:

Switch Wiring:

New ceiling light/fan installed… much better air flow in the room. And for a $40 fan, it moves a lot of air and is pretty damn quiet:

New switch installed:

This is what I have to say about the rats nest that used to run to the bar room light… through the bathroom wall!!!:

Bedroom dual outlet. Left side off the switch, right side constant. Don’t mind the paint, the room needs a good painting one of these days:

New bedroom switch… feels so nice to finally have a light on a switch… lol:

Living room triple outlet… wires were just plugged in temporarily. Everything has since been cleaned up for the audio/video:

Another Picture happy update… lol
Sheet-rock is up for the ceiling. 1/2" with moisture barrier. You can also see the mini-wall I framed in to continue the back shower wall all the way to the ceiling.

Closet area ceiling with new light.

Framed in a pillar to cover up the pipes. It will be covered with the same wallboard we are using in the rest of the bathroom, but will be 100% removable to access the pipes if ever needed. It is a “pressure” fit onto the pipes with insulation around them so no screws are needed. it will simply pull off (with a bit of force) to access the pipes.

Washer/dryer Closet all re-framed and sheet-rocked (will be covered with wallboard later)

Washer/Dryer hook-ups. All were pre-existing (from when my dad and I put them in last year) but I had to relocate the water hook-ups and outlet (also changed out to GFCI)

A much, much better load supporting wall.

So apparently there was a window behind the shower… duck tape is a great way to seal things right???

Another angle of the new load wall.
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f367/offroadzj/Remodel/4-13-10009.jpg
The other side of the load wall. We were able to get the vertical supports to sit perfectly flush with the old wall so when we put the wallboard up, you wont even know its there.

That is all for now. Tomorrow I should be able to finish sheet-rocking the load wall and the opposite wall from the washer/dryer closet (had to frame it off so that it would not be a random wall coming up at a 60*+ angle.)

nice work kenny… i love the light switch for the bathroom… baller now!

Went a little happy with the screws for the sheetrock eh? :lol I don’t go more than one every foot/foot and a half.

Is that electrical tape on top of the drain pipe?

What are you going to do with the old window? Moisture barrier sheetrock to cover that up screwing into surrounding beams should do?

Yea, I had to put that many in b/c I dont know what the issue was, but it seemed like every other screw was just pulling through at first. So to play it safe I just put them every few inches. I would much rather use the extra screws at the cost of screws than have to completely redo it 6 months from now at the cost of new sheet-rock, screws, tape, putty, paint, etc. Yea that is electrical tape. It was just keeping it covered to prevent any insulation/etc from falling into it and causing a clogged drain too… lol. There’s actually tape on the gas line too for the same reason.
