I might be picking up one of these cars in the next few days for what seems to be a great price.
I found a 98 Seville STS (It has the 300 Horsepower 4.6 Liter 32 Valve DOHC Northstar Engine) Black on Black leather, fully loaded, for $3,500.00.
Now the car is being sold so cheap because it has some electrical issues. The owner is telling me he had the engine and transmission rebuilt (the car has 110K miles), and when the shop but them back in, they didn’t do it properly, and cut up some of the wiring harness. Now some of the gauges do not work, and none of the power options work when the car is started (they do work when the car is “on” but not running though). But the car does run and drive.
What really concerns me though, is the car’s computer system thinks the car is stolen. The digital dash displays: anti-theft systems are ingauged, check/reset airbag system, check/reset stability control system, and a few other error codes. Are these easily resettable?
I know you guys can’t diagnose the problem without actually looking at the car, and that’s not really what I’m asking you guys to do, but I basically want to know if these cars are known to be trouble cars? Even the ones without problems seem to sell for cheap. There’s got to be a reason why you can pick up a car that sold new for $50K+, for less than $10K. The guy told me that he wants me to know before I buy it, that it has sensors for just about everything you can imagine, and they tend to need replaced frequently.
Just trying to get some general opinions of these cars before I buy one.
TIA for any info you can provide.
