DSM Kids - Opinions.

Basically everyone says No, you say I WANT.

From the tone and content of your threads, you have your mind made up.

Bad choice, but it is your choice.

If you are going to give advice about DSMs, it would help if you aren’t talking out of your ass.

Dawn, if you are hell bent on a 1G, then either find one in better condition with a properly working/cared for engine -OR- Buy a 1G shell and have the money aside to build an engine from scratch. This way you have a better handle on the history (engine wise) of the car, and you can take the steps from jumpstreet on proper maintenance. This particular car does not sound like a good idea. Keep looking around, you will find a better deal, or talk them down in price because that engine will have to go no matter what, and building an engine is a $2K-5K deal depending on how much of the work you do yourself.

$3500 for a shell with a blown engine sounds like a raw deal, unless the shell is IMMACULATE. I’ve seen 1G rollers go for $1500-2000, sometimes less in this area and Ohio.

x11ty billion

like i said in a previous post, i knew of a local shop that was selling a MINT 92 TSi FWD 5 speed, 109k on it. The motor dropped a valve 6 miles after a rebuild. Bottom end was still good

little elbow grease and you got yourself a rock solid car.

Look on ebay if need bea little TLC isnt a bad thing, it always helps to know your car as much as possible.

 @ Rick and he is right.

Here is what is going to happen when you get your DSM.

  1. You buy and drive it home.
  2. You think to yourself, “Why in the hell did I get into this Audi garbage when I have this amazing machine that is SOOOOOOOO fast!!”
  3. You drive it around some more and get more comfortable.
  4. You start to hear some funny noises.
  5. You start to smell some funny smells
  6. You starto to see some electrical problems
  7. You ask your friends or NYSpeed what’s wrong with your DSM
  8. You find out that…
    a) your transfer case is leaking
    b) your rear driver wheel bearing is shot
    c) your radiator is leaking coolant
    d) your valve cover is leaking oil
    e) your transmission grinds in 1st
    f) your throttle body is leaking
    g) your front rotors are warped
    h) your clutch pedal sinks into the floor on right turns YIKES
    i) your blowing blue and white smoke out your exhaust
    j) your exhaust manifold is cracked
    k) your driveshaft is clunking
    l) your ECU smells like unwashed ass mixed with a pinch of sulfer and rotting corpse
    m) your oil filter keeps unscrewing itself
    n) your idle is as sloppy as a two dollar whore
    o) your idle surges like too much coffee
    p) your trunk hatch does not stay open
    q) your turbo has more shaft play than a gay porno
    r) your turbo has more plunge than a plumber’s conference
  9. so then you want to kill yourself for buying this and your wallet is emptied because of all the parts you threw at it.
  10. Gary Burch offers to buy it for a substantially reduced rate
  11. You take his offer and are now in debt for thousands more than you were.
  12. NYSpeed laughs at you
  13. Dubs In The Buff laughs at you
  14. Newman laughs at you
  15. Jam laughs at you while drinking the last drop of gin
  16. You kill yourself.

(y) Is by far the best bullet.

IDK how closely My stealth Relates to the DSM U seek, but its not a bad car its just tempermentel, If u got the patiance for stupid problomes, than its not a prob, but the best way I can discibe it is I’ve never seen a car that i would actully consdier to have feelings, its like a gay emo kid, hurt its feeling and it slits its wrists, Ha Ha, hope that helps,

Dawn, see rubicant post…please skip to step number 16.

or Eviljay’s own step number

  1. http://www.nyspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24462

But you would drink the gin regardless of whether a car broke or not. Hell, people start hiding their liquor if they know you’re coming. That was not a good bullet at all.

Besides, Rubicants is cursed, that’s why he had that list. None of that shit ever happened to me.

Bottom line, take care of the car, whatever it is, and you won’t have any problems.

agreed, like any car, if you neglect it, it will break down.

Heres what you should do.

Keep the audi and buy a TSi that you can restore. Seriously, that way your covered. Its a bitch not getting what ya want, but ya gotta tough that ish out sometimes and do it.

Only a few things on that list happened to mine. I tailored that list specific to 1G DSM’s… Mine has a whole new batch of issues.

BTW Rick, you were too much of a pussy to tear into the head and engine which is why…

Owning and driving a DSM is like dating a supermodel with turrettes. Fuck is she hot and fast, but you better expect random swear words to pop out any time you drive her. Tons of maintenance, tons of fun, and in no way do you ever plan on introducing her to mom. That’s for Honda’s.

Ha ha! I thought Matt’s list was funny too! I’m liking the way this thread is going!!

Sig worthy shit right there

more like dating supermodel with hiv .a good time but boy will it cost u

WELL SAID…Its pointless to ask peoples opinions when you are going to do the exact opposite of what they tell ya :blah:

You guys are all illiterate. She didn’t ask whether to get a DSM or not. She asked if the particular one she was looking at was a good deal. Go back and read post #1.

:ham:

lol. typical.

DAWN LIST THE BLAZER!

I was planning on keeping the audi anyways. I’ll never get rid of it, ever.

This is a really hard decision.
I found another tsi awd that needs a tranny and that’s it.
But I doubt the kid will sell it to me.
He’ll just end up letting it sit and never get a tranny for it.

Ugh.

I just want something fun and “new.”
And who’s Gary Burch?

Matt, you’re a jerk.

quoted for truth.

Just be patient. Take your time, and you will find a good deal that has NOTHING BROKEN. Patience, grasshopper.

Start hanging out on some of the DSM forums like rochesterdsm.org and wnydsm.org. If you haven’t yet, sign up for DSMTuners and take a look at their classifieds. Keep an eye out, you will find something worth waiting for.
