I say the plane will NOT take off, insufficient airflow over the wings to generate lift. I also say they do a closeup shot of Kari’s ass or chest at least 3 times during the show.

ive read the first thread, prob posted in it, and i cant recall if i said it would or it wouldnt.

ive read ~half of this thread, and still dont have a concrete opinion.

physics and math is NOT my thing by ANY MEANS.

but, i have a question… If the plane, in theory according to some of you, will take off, then why do planes need wings to fly? the way im understanding it (and correct me if im wrong) is that a plane needs air moving over the wings to create lift. SO, to the people saying that it will take off, shouldnt a plane be able to fly without wings according to your theory? and if the treadmill is going “backwards” to counteract the plane going forwards, how would the wheels of the plane spin without some kind of opposite force pushing the plane the opposite way as the treadmill is going? wouldnt the treadmill just move the whole plane backwards?

i know i should refer to Fry’s sig before posting, but i honestly dont really understand this so someone feel free to explain it to me and tell me im completely wrong, because i really would like to understand it lol

eh ill post in both threads just to spark more conversation but if you go to the gym and run on a treadmill I dont feel the wind pass over me like I do running outside. Hence, the plane will NOT take off because my model was perfect. /thread

this is my point tho. car standing still means that conveyor belt speed and wheel speed are the same. so in THEORY, if the treamill can match the wheel speed INSTANTANEOUSLY(which is more or less impossible) the plane would have a very difficult time moving in the forward direction.

the only reason the plane would continue to go in a forward even if landing on a treadmill that is going the opposite way… is because of its momentum it had from flying through the air.

if you dropped a plane directly onto a moving treadmill from above, which direction would it go? obviously in the direction of the treadmill.

i’m not arguing the subject either way there, just touching on your point.

now onto the subject, let’s go backwards for shits and giggles. let’s turn the treadmill on first. say a plane is sitting on the giant treadmill, engines are off. the treadmill starts up, the plane starts moving backward, at 50 mph. the plane’s engines are started, but just set to exert the right amount of thrust to DIRECTLY combat the 50 mph of treadmill speed… what happens? the plane doesnt go anywhere, and the wheels spin in place. right?

50 mph treadmill backwards plus only 25 mph of thrust will still make the plane go backwards…

it’s the same if you’re holding the toy plane with a string… the faster the treadmill is going, the more force you have to hold onto the string with, else the plane goes backwards. if you pull forward on the string more, it will go forward, if you lessen the force, it will pull backwards.

so, IN THEORY, IFthe treadmill could ALWAYS exactly match the same force as exerted by the plane’s engines, wouldn’t the plane be stationary and not be able to lift off?

am i completely wrong? flame away if so. either way at least this is making the work day go by… lol
