As innocent as Nelly wants to act… look at these facts:

Tried to sell car for $3500, ended up selling it for $1800.

You could see that he painted over rust. (I guess he didn’t notice the rust while painting over it)

Why would anyone give it a brand new paintjob and sell it for $1800? (This one is a bit subjective as a lot of people build cars and then sell it)

Based on that, I think that Nelly and his brother planned to give it a paintjob to make a quick buck by selling it to a newb.

He said that he saw one of the holes in the floor but it “wasn’t that bad”.
I’m sure if you see a hole in your own car, you would definitely kinda poke around the metal to see how it is. -
Based on that, Nelly probably knew that he whole floor was fucked,
