Just traded my fusion for an 00 ls Integra with a b20(kid didn’t even know it had a swap) anyway it’s throwing code po171 fuel lean. I have Googled it and it says vacume leak. 02 #1. Fuel filter injector. Just wondering if anyone he’s had this problem. Car has 126k and hasn’t seen snow yet it’s from virgina.
It also has a short ram intake that makes a loud humming noise. Dc header
work your way backwards… lean is not enough fuel for the air entering the motor. could be a million things. Could be a tune issue since its swapped and already has bolt ons it sounds like. Fuel filter, bad injectors, dieing fuel pump. Bad o2 sensor. list goes on and on. It needs proper troubleshooting time… something the internet chat boards dont provide. When you bought it/test drove it was the cel on? when you plugged in a scanner in the sellers driveway (hopefully you did) was the readyness set or was it freshly cleared by the seller befor you got there. What I am getting at, was the issue there from day one, if so probably was never properly addressed by the previous owner, or was it running good all readyness passed for a while for you while you owned it and just came up? Im trying to help you decide if something wore out, clogged or broke vs it was never right in the first place.
He told me it was on before I got the car. I have only driven the car about 45 miles so far. It seems to run great. I have another 02 sensor from another b series I had in the past I was going to try that. Run some seafoam through it. Some injector cleaner maybe
Just spoke to the kids I got it from. He has only had the car since the spring and the cel has been on the whole time
Which injectors does it have? B18 or B20?
I’m not sure. How do I figure that out?
I’m not sure but Google said that code (what I was reading involved a b20 swapped teg) can be triggered by using the b18 injectors with the b20 block. Other possible things I saw ranged from valve lash needing to be adjusted to a loose/not sealing gas cap.
Seems like I have my work cut out for me.
ill go with kk on this one.
i bet the ecu is the original ls b18 ecu running a b20 motor. same thing happened to my buddy.
b20 injectors should be same size too 240cc
So is it ok to run the stock b18 ecu? Also should I try unplugging the #1 o2 sensor and see if it runs any different or see if the same code comes up with it unplugged?
Any trouble shooting you do can’t hurt. It will only rule things out.
Running the b18b ecu is a pretty conventional way of running that motor. It’s what my daily driver is. After doing some checking with a wideband it’s pretty clear that they run lean at part throttle and idle. A cheater way to bump it up a little bit is to disconnect the vacuum from the fuel pressure regulator. But you may have other obd2/swap gremlins too.
B20b and b18b are the same injectors.
bottom line, and no offense to you… is bring it to someone who knows what they are doing and you can trust. Reason being is, with only hand tools and ideas you will spin your tires for days, maybe getting lucky and finding a “fix”… but someone who has all the tools (wide band, fuel pressure gauge, leakdown tester, feeler gauges to check lash, scanner WITH data stream/capture, volt/amp/ohm meter, …) can tackle it and probably get you just about to 1st or second base in an hour or so while you might not make it into the ball park poking around here and there for days. I dont know how else I can put that, so dont take offense please. All I am saying is troubleshooting a “lean engine condition” on a stock car (let alone one built by some kid who “swapped” something who clearly didnt know what they were doing either or they would have addressed the issue then) is like asking an investor what is the best way to make a buck. Its so vague and there are hundreds of solutions.
Find a good local “guy” with honda knowledge and bring them a 12 pack and a pizza, or bring it to a shop who knows what they are doing too. anddddd, being its a swapped who knows what the hell is in it component/tune wise car I would bring it to a specialized tuning shop instead of “Joe Blow Repairs LLC.”
Joe blow is my mechanic. Dems fighting words!
I would love to bring it to a shop and have them look at it. But I’m broke.
If I pull the vacuum hose of the regulator shouldl I plug the hose or just let it suck air?
Plug it. Speed density cars like hondas are really picky about vac leaks.
dont do that dumb stuff.
buy a crv ecu and plug it in… but keep your og ecu so you can inspect that thing.
in ny a suv swap will not pass inspection. but if it reads integra ecu your fine.
so dd on crv ecu and inspection swap it.
you could also socket that ecu for cheap download some free software or pay xenocron to upload a stock crv map to a chip.
$50-$100 tops
That stuff your calling dumb, works. It’s safe and free too. My daily driver is a b20 with an LS ecu and I have done other swaps setup similar. He prob has other things going on but it’s a piece if cake to make that swap work.
