02 BMW E46 M3 Turbo Question..

actually the motor handles boost pretty well.

If you have to ask…

skunkshift.jpg?

talk to this guy about boosting your DD. If he doesn’t respond he is probably too busy driving around in his M5. Which he will probably boost too

a little bit of a stretch for the m5 poke… but DOS was an idiot when it came to modding his DD… he chose a car that doesnt respond that easily to boost, and didnt want to use a capable ECU solution

why not S/C? i’m not much of a supercharger guy, but I’ve seen some cool videos on youtube of some dudes running around with a stock M3 and a bolt on s/c, 450whp stock exhaust…pretty fresh.

Meh, I think go with a nice Intake/Exhaust (mid pipe is the the best mod ever for these cars IMO) setup, and use it for what Its made for…Handling, Dans car surprised the fuck out of me, right out of the box I cant believe how sharp and stable they are, I couldn’t imagine it with a nice aftermarket suspension setup, at that point Pwr becomes less and less of an issue. Fuck Im looking at the marketplace section on M3 forums now…Shoot me.

intake and exhaust are insanely expensive… and DO NOTHING

Sounds good though, but yeah they are ridiculously expensive.

Throwing headers and hiflow cats are a decent way of making a good bit of power N/A, otherwise you’re fucking around with expensive shit that does nothing. some people report a loss in power from exhausts. the car is relatively fine stock in terms of power, unless you go FI you are wasting money IMO.

well the only good mod for the e46 m3 (at a decent cost) is gutting the headers… then you have to worry about emissions

I wouldnt say they do nothing…

Get a set of 4.10 gears… the car becomes a LOT more fun…

for power mods i have

Streamline Panel filter (just a drop in)
Headers
ar25 resonator
Borla Exhaust

the car is a lot more responsive now… but i doubt the power has increased much…

Im flipping coins on a S/C it all depends on if i get my work bonus in the spring/ how the economy is doing…

if i dont get a SC i am getting 4.10 gears… they make a WORLD of differance on teh car, especially the SMG cars

Look for the following thread titles in the upcoming year…

“How to ruin a perfectly good car”

“The last time I drove my M3 was 2008”

“Wow I didn’t realize how much money it costs to rebuild a M3 motor”

“Ebay turbo kits are crap”

lol

i would say that is 90% mental

yeah forgot the gears…that’s a solid mod.

i saw some guy online who dyno’d ebay headers against stockers, made like 20whp…headers costed him 350. on top of tons of other good reviews by other people. not saying I’d get them in a heartbeat based on that, just read it somewhere…

the same guy iirc, dyno’d stock vs. k&n vs. streamline filters, and stock inlet hose vs. streamline inlet and noted a 6whp gain on the streamline inlet/filter. it seemed like a relatively legit test.

not FI info I know so it’s a bit OT…but take it for what it’s worth. i read M3 forums all day when I’m bored, even though I plan on staying stock it’s interesting time killing reading.

I agree that bolt ons will do little for the power gain, but Im sure you do gain a bit of response, plus if It concerns you it makes a better noise, but IDK if I could go spending 2500 on a borla mid-pipe end exhaust. Id stick to suspension and braking mods, its becomes less important to have shit tons of power at that point, or just a nice fun DD that sounds good, a stock Power M is PLENTY good for that.

the headers actually do have a proven HP gain… that along with the intake helps a bunch…

the car is much more responsive down low…

where did you get the 2500?

My stuff cost

Headers - 150 shipped
exhaust ~ 690-800 shipped
ar25 resonator - 75 shipped…

the mid pipe etc from EVERY company are the same diameter tubing, they just add/subtract resonators… so i jsut added my own for 75 bux and ~ an hour with a mig/cutoff wheel

weird usually intake/exhaust on the dyno moves the power band up…
