Ahh, nice personally that what i would have done. 2500 was just figure Ive seen from a few quick searches. Quad tip borla exhaust Seemed to be fluctuating from 900-1100, and the borla mid pipe seemed to be about 800, so 2500 is a bit overdone i guess but still its not cheap, but anyway its seems if you shop around you can get things a bit cheaper, glad to hear
The motor spins to 8k… the power band was already all the way up… they add some torque down ~ 4k er so…
ugh… this thread is a lot of misinformation… you want some power cheaply get a drop in, elbow, JVT headers, section 1 + 2 and something like an El Diablo can with a D/A flash.
Don’t do what I did which is spend way more than I should have.
The gears WILL cost you about $2k, give or take, no matter what you do… and seriously, unless you track your car A LOT go with the 3.91’s.
My mods are a GruppeM, Borla section 1+2, AA can, Shark chip (which sucks) Euro headers and the 4.10’s… I pulled about 2 car lengths on a stock M3 up to 140ish(on a closed course of course) I want to get out to the texas mile soo and see what I can do there.
WOW you def didn’t cheap out there. i like vipers solution, just cut out the stock resonator and replace it with your own, Its saves the cost of the midpipe.
FYI, you can get gears for 700 bux from turner motorsports…
Competition transmission here in tonawanda said they would do the install on a pumpkin for 300 bux…
so for 1k i can get 4.10’s
The shark chip and the DA software are both pretty much worthless… neither of them have ever proven to me that all either are doing is messing with the throttle mapping… ive never seen proven gains from either, only people saying their cars are more responsive… ie throttle mapping…
i wouldnt be surprised if DA was loading ECU’s into a dummy m3 at their shop and plugging in the Shark injector into the car and flashing each ecu there…
any company who charges more for one level of product then another is ripping people off…
ie charging more for street vs “race” software… or charging more for differant profiles of cams…
the whole BMW scene lets themselves get taken advantage of… and they deserve to be paying 10k for supercharges that other makes pay 4500 for
So is a chip/software worth anything at all on a bolt ons M3 ? or is it about getting the right one ?
thats kind of outdated… but still mostly true
Im not convined yet… most peole take these “tuners” as the word of god, ive asked htem point blank, what they adjust in the fuel/timing map… and most wont give me an answer… some of the “chip” shops have inhouse dynos, but dont post before/after on their chips… hrm i wonder why…
at almost 800 bux for da “race” its hardly worth it…
if sharkedit is ever released that + dyno time will be nice… but there arent many gains to be had NA on this car…
stick to gearing/suspension or get a S/C…
want to do the software right? Run Alpha-N
Yeah seems awfully costly for something thats hit or miss, and wont yield more that 10-15WHP if any at all.
it helps make the car more drivable and basically you pay for removal of the cats, gets rid of the SES light… but nothing except FI will yield more than 50whp… short of a full NA rebuild which gets extremely pricey.
i got rid of my SES light with a simple o2 simulator and 2 minutes of soldering… 40 bux…
