Like the title says, I need to trace some threads on some caliper brackets. The ones I got from napa the threads have paint in them and the bolts will not go. Don’t want to strip them as the paint is pretty thick. I can bring the calipers with me. lmk what you guys have asap.

ok, it’s not 1/4-20 but I just bought a 50pc tap and die set and nothing in it fits, go figure. FML anybody have a huge tap and die set that they wanna lend a hand here? I think the threads are metric, 1.25?
chances are its metric threads. If I had seen this thread earlier, I would have for sure offered to let you swing by cause I have a SAE tap and die set and you coulda saved the money or at least bought a metric set…
It’s ok, thanks tho. I’m not sure what size those threads are, and it was no where near 1/4 lol. It was actually closer to a 1/2-20 but that tap was to big and the closest metric tap I had in the kit was to small being a 10x1.25. I’m going to return this set and start looking for a decent priced full size set So I will have them on hand.
are the threads different than what you tried? or did it just not fit?

I have a full metric & sae snapon set. 76 pieces brand new. $330.
I forgot all about this thread, but I was able to force the bolts threw the threads without stripping anything. It was tight but once I got each bolt back out I was able to clean the excess paint off with a wire brush and they went in a lot easier the second time around.
