looking for a gear to use as the base of a camshaft lamp. i need something of decent weight so it doesn’t tip over easily. i’m thinking a gear out of a manual trans, timing gear out of a larger tractor engine, etc??
thanks.

I don’t have one, but a wore out motor cycle sprocket might do the trick.
I have an LS cam gear on my LS camshaft lamp and it works just fine.
Did you guys do anything fancy for wiring or just leave it dangle from the receptacle?
Ill have a 50oz balancer coming off of a motor and a timing gear this week.
I got two of these (the camshaft, not the crank), one with the Cam lobe ground down. Have sentimental value but might be able to part with them. Not sure if it’s what you were looking for. Would work better as a lamp than it ever did for it’s true purpose.
i tacked the LS timing gear to the LS cam, works fine. there’s usually enough cars torn down at M&M that you don’t have to do much (if any work) to pull a large gear off a motor.
thanks for the responses. i didnt expect the ls timing gear to be heavy enough for it to be stable.
use a camshaft that is hollow to run the wiring down inside it.
what is this out of??
