Well I may have to sell my Datsun.
Motor
As it sits the car is currently gutted. I sold the L16 that was in it and was prepping it for an SR swap. For those who dont know the car well, KA’s and SR’s drop in almost as easy as a Honda swap. With the parts I have stockpiled i was planning an S13DET swap but you could as easliy switch to a KA/DE and run either EFI or carbs.
Body
The car is in good shape and has a cage. Under the hood and trunk are quite clean. The interior could use a bit of paint and cleanup but there is no floor board rot or anything. Rear fenders on both sides have a bit of exposed cheese but nothing too extravagant. The underside of the car is nice as well. There is no carpet or headliner though. I had a body guy here this morning who gave me a couple of options and said he’d get back to me with pricing for both.
A: Do a quick once over of the interior and clean up the appearance of the fenders and driver her
B: Do the complete blast, prep and paint. Obviously this route is gonna cost more but they were confident that the car is in more than decent shape.
Parts
As i said I have stockpiled a bunch of stuff in preperation for the SR swap, please note ALL parts are brand new and still in boxes. The car has a sumped fuel tank and i have purchased/mapped out a complete feed/return fuel system based on Earls 6AN lines and an Aeromotive inline pump which is good for 350ish turbo hp. Majority of folks use a rats nest of 30 year old OEM wiring and mesh it into an SR harness. Instead I bought a trunk mount painless wiring 18 circuit kit. My plan was to use that with the SR harness and take whatever leftovers (lights, signals etc…) i needed from the 510 and go from there. I already have purchased all Sport Comp II gauges you will need less a tach. The OEM speedo works just fine. You can use whichever tuning software you’d like at that point. I have a complete coilover kit from Ermish Racing which included bump steer spacers, all new bushings and ball joints etc… As I said the SR20 drops right it…except for the fact that you need to reverse the front cross member. I have purchased a fitting kit from Maddat in Australia. It provides you with a new crossmember, swaybar, tranny mount and a few other things needed to go along with the swap.
As of right now I am into the car for:
3500 for the car itself
1700 to ship it here
9000 in parts i have stockpiled
1750 in shipping fees/brockerage etc…
15950 total, plus i guarantee i am missing a few things
I would like to get $12500 for it. That may seem steep but i know first hand how hard these are to find in Canada let alone one in the US that is actually in good shape. And to be honest even if i have to sit on it for a few months i know it will sell. I will not part it out or anything like that. I really love this car, spent almost a year looking for a decent candidate and would like to see it go to someone who can appreciate the research and time i have put into it and really complete the project properly and not half ass it like so many out there.
I will send what few pics I have to anyone interested as well as the complete list of parts I have. I also dont mind giving ideas as to whats left to complete the build and get her rolling.
Thanks for reading…sorry so long
