Bump for a few phone call tire kickers…
I think most would call me NYSpeeds Fiero authority. Probably not a title to brag about but anyway…
Yes, rwd.
I drove one as a DD in college and loved it in the snow. With the engine over the drive wheels it would power through like a champ. The only issue being the very limited ground clearance.
Can’t really address what this one needs.
They’re pretty easy to work on especially once you get over the whole stigma of “It’s a mid engined car, it’s gotta be hard to work on”. It’s a FWD GM engine subframe rotated 180 degrees and stuck in the back of the car. You can change the alternator without removing anything major (though it’s a game of twister getting out out), the starter drops straight off the bottom but the exhaust has to be disconnected, and the entire engine/trans/rear suspension can be dropped out as on piece in a couple hours if you know what you’re doing. The front 3 plugs on the V6 are a bitch but laying on top of the engine they can be swapped without removing anything from the car with a medium amount of cursing. The rear brake caliper design was sub contracted out to Rube Goldberg to make the most convoluted all in one disc brake/parking brake system of it’s day. GM didn’t really do anything exotic though so if you know how to fix one 80’s GM you can probably fix a Fiero.
I really do miss my little 86 GT.
EDIT: I take it some of the interior bits are from another car, because the shift diagram seems to indicate a 5 speed but this is a 4 speed.
that would be nice if you got the 88 suspension and brakes too.
its the brakes that are the worst on these cars, non-vented front rotors glaze over in roughly half of one 40-0 aggressive stop, ha.
i had an 85 gt. still got it actually. these are great lil cars if you dont crush the coolant tubes running near the pinchwelds/jackpoints when you use a floor jack
someone buy this and throw a gtp swap in it.
edit: jays, was 87 the first year for the upgraded brakes - or did 88 get all the good stuff?
88 got the big upgrade, the revised front and multilink rear suspension, along with vented discs all around.
However, my 86 never really had any braking problems. It probably had almost as many miles autocrossing as driving on the street and had no braking issues lapping TMP. Stock brakes, just new stock blank rotors and a performance pad. When people complained about Fiero brakes the majority of the time they simply didn’t know how to bleed them properly, or their rear brakes probably weren’t working at all due to them not knowing the black magic involved with getting them working.
This hasn’t had much of a suspensional upgrade, but 87 had a different design from 86, 88 got the good stuff, correct.
Fixed…
Free bump, anyway. Someone buy this thing before I succumb to temptation.
this thing is screaming for a 3800
Somebody buy this!!!1
BuMp Want my garage space back!!!1
Oh if i only had the extra money. I always wanted on of these. Awesome little cars. drove my buddies a few times and loved it. Tell him to take my grand am on trade. lol.
LOL, I can’t do that, I need the garage space, not another car… lol
friend from work bought one and will be installing a 3800 supercharged motor in his. should be pretty damn cool
he said the V6 had fire problems though…anyone no why and how to prevent this
V6 fires were caused by the insulation falling off the firewall and catching fire when it came to rest on the manifold. Most had this fixed under recall, and those that didn’t generally have had their insulation fall away so much by now that they’re isn’t enough left to catch fire.
4 banger fires were more common and due to a weak spot on the motor mount that would crack and dump oil directly on the hot manifold.
Interested if i receive loan check before i go back to school.
Bump… Still for sale…
This version of the 2.8 has the alum heads and flowed pretty well. I can’t believe no one picked this up yet, I always wanted one of these.
^ No Fiero ever had aluminum heads. The GM 2.8 aluminum head design is not compatible with the Fiero intake.
Bump for a tune-up and its running great…
god i want this so bad, lol take payments
I’ll take either a one time $1000 payment or two $500 payments within 2 weeks, lol.
