what motor came in these

^yes dpfi, the lx was the same as the dx, except got a few more interior frills and a passy mirror
is there alot of mods for this motor?
you dont want to mod that motor. its pretty much crap.
but if you just want a little more pep for a good daily driver, you can do the MPFI swap to it.
how much would that run me?
As Karter said, that DPFI setup is what kills performance. All you need for the MPFI swap is the complete intake manifold (fuel injectors & rail, throttle body), distributor, ECU, and some wiring. Prices vary depending on where you find the stuff. 250 is around the highest I’ve seen this stuff go for.
just keep it as is and enjoy the great gas mileage
He’s still gonna get 30+ mpgs, unless he beats the snot out of it.

srsly, go to honda tech and do some reading. christ
If this is a gold 1988 honda civic lx with tan interior and 5spd. That motor is shot. Compression was 90psi in cylinder 2 and 3 and 120psi in cylinder 1 and 4.
If this is a gold 1988 honda civic lx with tan interior and 5spd that was at mecedes benz on main. That motor is shot. Compression was 90psi in cylinder 2 and 3 and 120psi in cylinder 1 and 4.
Your only bet is to swap a whole new motor. And to do so google. EF SWAP
