Its funny how many different reactions I get to the car. EVERYONE looks at it. Theres people who pace me to take pictures, there’s people that roll down their windows and scream “fucking faggot” at the top of their lungs (this has happened more than once). It really is entertaining and I enjoy it a lot. I will regret saying this, but surprisingly the cops have given me zero issues, but I have a front plate, no tints, and the exhaust isn’t loud if I’m just cruising around.
Honest… I’m not shocked at this. I get it a lot of with the S2000. People see Honda and instantly bash on you. Obviously the usual are Pickup truck owners and Muscle car (steroid rage happy men).
Ignorant people who are not happy with their own life positions need to have something to say cause they suck. But want to feel better about sucking.
In the Nova I get crazy shit too. My favorite is being asked about fuel economy, handling, and weight. [sarcasm]YEAH I DRIVE A 65 NOVA CAUSE I GIVE A FUCK ABOUT THAT SHIT[/sarcasm]
Whats even better is i never bother but it gets good mpg for what it is(15ish), handles and stops sweet on the pro touring front clip, and is 3100lbs.
Anyhow this Subaru is a great build and sounds like you are really getting the most out of it. Props to getting it done so quick and not being afraid to beat the snot out of it. ;tup:
Thanks! We are starting to talk about plans for next year. It may involve a different car with many more cubic inches of displacement.
I really enjoy the shit talking. That is one of the reasons that I keep the pink shit and stickers on the car. Its fun to see how upset people get over something so trivial to their own lives. Surprisingly, I dont get many people asking questions about it. We had a lot of people when we were actually in the event since they saw so many cars stickered up, but I think locally no one knows what OLOA is to even ask about it.
I plan to beat the snot out of it next friday-- Going to tmp for some open lapping.
Also, for your enjoyment. Here’s a link to Brock Yates on the BBC America show “The King of Speed” talking about the original Cannonball Run.
Car is still running strong. Just passed 100k on the drivetrain odometer today. I took most of the stickers off to make sure they didn’t damage the paint from being on too long (what a pain in the ass that was).
The 2015 OLOA schedule was announced this week and its headed out west.

This route makes it very difficult for me to be able to use this car. After researching, it looks like 93 is not available on the route pretty much past Denver. Apparently, the 91 out west is equivalent to our 87. I would be comfortable driving the car on a conservative tune on 87 for transit driving, but racing it is not going to happen. Some people have suggested just get race fuel at each track, but I am not comfortable banking that each track will have it available, and that the pumps will even be open.
At this point, I have 2 options that I can think of.
#1 . Flexfuel. Surprisingly, e85 is somewhat plentiful along the major interstates. I was going to pick up a vipec and convert the car to flex fuel, but the tuning was going to be prohibitively expensive for my goals with this car.
#2 . Meth injection. Yeah. I don’t… no. Not happening.
Not sure what the plan is at this point.
In other news, I am hoping to get a custom anti-surge tank fabbed up this winter. The in tank baffle worked a little bit, but I still get starvation at between 1/3 and 1/2 tank. I have been considering making modest aluminum undertrays similar to the plastic GD sti ones. Im sure that will be a pipe dream based on the # of projects I have going so far.
I cant do straight e85. I would be stopping every 120 miles for fuel (literally, which equals 25 stops for gas not including track time), and I cant guarantee that there will be e85 available that often. The cost of flex fuel implementation was more than my entire budget for the event.
Spring maintenance time. I am scheduled (so far) for Watkins glen at the end of june as well as Mosport for 3 days in july. Finally got around to putting the stoptech front stainless brake lines in. Flushed all of the old RBF 600 out with new goodness. New rotors (NAPA) and pads (hawk dtc-60). Plugs. Replaced the prosport AFR gauge with an AEM UEGO. Installed the Cobb AP v3.
I was planning on going to the track tonight. While replacing the spark plugs, I found a crack in my up-pipe. It looks like it has been there since last year. I had noticed some slight hesitation between shifts since taking it out of storage-- I think this was the culprit. Side note, its amazing how heat cycling makes metal corrode so easily. That hardware was all brand new last year and its now rusted to hell. Its not like it saw salt.
Time to tear it out and get it repaired. Have a message into filthy habits to see if he has time. I hate working on cars in my driveway. I need a shop.
Edit: Filthy Habits Fabrication was great and fixed this in a jiffy. Added some braces to be sure it doesn’t happen again.
I’ll end up with a c5. The other contender is an e36 m3 that eventually gets an ls1. I’m going to build a mostly street car for hpde and try and get on a chump/lemons team.
I’m not planning on diagnosing it but I believe a piston disintegrated or a rod let go. Can’t turn it over by hand. It let go on a wet lap putzing around so it was not like it was actively seeing crazy stresses.
There was a subaru backed road racing team that went through a motor per race. Imho, the motors can’t handle the stresses of road racing. Between Harvey and I, we have blown 5 motors on track in the past 3 years.
