Looks like a professional repair shop.
Nice!
Ended up getting that LS block that was already blasted yesterday for $40! I need 4 pistons/rods if you have any spares.
Thanks ladies
Haha, let me know what he says. I actually never even met or spoke to him
Nice, floor space is probably the biggest amenity one can have. I constantly wish I had another 5’ on each side, but oh well.
After listening to it ring and scream for 3 years enough was enough
Thanks, I took all my inspiration from garage journal. There are some workspaces on there that make my living room look like a shithole. I REALLY want to do a floor but I need to do some more homework as to what material to use - biggest issue will be standing up to hot tires, jackstands, floor jack being dragged around, and the inevitable oil and coolant that’s gonna vomit all over the floor.
'Merica. No spares dude.
Looks great, every time I see a well sorted garage like this it inspires me to repaint my garage.
I just need to build a separate workshop for all my woodworking tools
I work for a living goddamnit…lady of the night; thank you.
Lady…pfffft
I gave you my best man wave last night! Limp wristed or not…
what did you do? too much “alone” time? hah
car looked good.
Thanks man…yours as well.
Picked up a used unit heater locally for $200. 60,000BTU input, 48000 output. Although I used to work in the HVAC industry a couple years back I mainly did design for air handlers and such, so not much experience with unit heaters (in either safe installation or general design/layout). After gathering an idea of where I wanted it and what needed to be done, I decided to skip the contractor route and do it myself.
Start by bolting unistrut to ceiling joists behind drywall with lag screws. Home depot naturally only sold unistrut in 10’ lengths when I only needed 2’, but I’m sure i’ll use it one day.

Nobody around to help lift? No problem. Unleash the engineer. Attach eyebolts to unistrut and secure with nut to use as lifting points

Attach ratcheting tow straps to lift points on unit and in ceiling

Unit was probably 120#, so each strap was only lifting a bit over 60lbs. Lift one side, make sure it’s locked in, lift other side, rinse repeat.

Get it high enough, and the straps hold her in place while I start the nuts on the allthread.

Tip: make sure that your tow straps are short enough at their fully shortened position to lift the unit high enough to get to the allthread. I had to drop her down and reattach the straps lower on the unit to give me the last couple inches needed.
Next: Special Gas Vent (single wall) and gas piping from basement
Like the lifting plan. Work smart not hard.
Or you could have called a neighbor and offered him beer to help…
My eyes hurt from that THREE TONE GARAGE!
Truth - I stole your idea with different colors
Unlike on cars multiple tones on walls look good.
Should have texted me I would have showed up and drank beer
I think you are just partial to the bright red!
Getting shit done, nice work Norb, let me know if you need anything.
Did you figure out what gas line to use yet, I didn’t have a chance to ask any co workers yet regarding sizing it.
I did talk to one about the wall timble, I think he said there’s something that will work with your vinyl siding, what he described sounded like what you see for fire places, the square box on the outside of the house.
 goddamn copy cats. Need to do a photoshoot of your drug pusher car in the garage. so much 2 tone
Still need to run gas piping and venting dudes but that’s more of a 1 man job. When I get the lift in (hopefully this summer) you boys can help unload it and stand her up. Beer party and BBQ in the driveway
Thanks dude, yeah that’s exactly what I need, except that most of those boxes have a rain cap built in and dump the exhaust right away, like this: (this is actually identical to what I have on my gas fireplace wall penetration)
Whereas I need to get 12" away from the wall before I dump to meet code and to avoid melting the siding. I was thinking this
and just stubbing out the 4" pipe 1 foot to meet code.
I plan on tapping into that 3/4 right before the furnace drop and running 1/2 all the way to the heater. Based on the sizing chart I could get away with up to 50’ with 1/2 for that BTU, and I’m far less than that
Sounds good, yeah I had to of used 40ft or so of 1/2" for my 75k btu unit heater and my gas pressure is like 10"w.c. coming in, but never checked with appliances on, think she’s good, don’t use it much yet anyways.
The rest is a one man job for sure.
I love garage threads…
Looking good. I remember the “by myself” heater install. Ugh, I lifted the thing up onto the stepladder and kept putting blocks under it till it was high enough.
Garage threads always have my attention. This place looks great. : tup:
