What kind of MPGs did you get with this?
it all depends on how you drive it. I beat the hell out of my heavily modded TDI and get 40mpg
Justin on here got 65mpg but drove like a grandma.
you’ll hear all kinds of storys about the mpg, just know its better then a civic has more creature comforts and wont rot out like a civic. but your going to pay more for it.
I have been averaging 45 mpg which means ~550 miles per tank (without venting the tank to cram more fuel in, see TDI Club for moar info)
EDIT: I just installed the new rear pads and found that the old pads were frozen up in the bracket, so I cleaned the brackets up with a file, greased the pins so I’m thinking the mileage will go up significantly
Awesome seller here, definitely takes care of his cars
These are really worth that much? Wow…
Well to find a well maintained car with lower miles is hard, most of them are close to or north of 200,000 miles
Picked up my 2000 TDI over a month ago, and filled the tank for the first time last week. I got 460 miles out of 12 gallons, and was mostly city driving. Paid way way less for my Jetta, but also had 354k on the clock.
They hold value! glws bump!!
yes.
I keep thinking about getting one of these, but didn’t realize people were trying to sell them for that much. I’m aware that they hold their value, but wow.
This car is going to be so solid for 100k miles without buying a new car your not going to get that kind of reliability. The Jetta we had at the dealership just sold for 6k on a no reserve auction on eBay with no sunroof and almost 2x the miles.
This car has also been gone over by me EGR is off so the intake will never clog it has auto unlock doors.
Plus I’m sure he would take a reasonable offer but has to put a price out for a starting point.
I have my cousin really wanting a TDi, but the trans swap scares me away, is the cruse a byproduct of the swap? I don’t know a ton about these cars and their mechanics.
The trans swap should attract you, because the automatic transmissions that came on these MKIV TDI’s were timebombs, expensive ones too. Price is a little bit steep, but if this thing is as solid as described, then the future owner should be set for a bit. GLWS
Yes the cruise issue is a by product of the tran-swap, I can recode the ECU back to auto and the cruise will work, but you will get a CEL for no auto computer(not a big deal because a Diesel will still pass inspection with a CEL as they are emissions exempt). there is a way to rewire the cruise to work with no CEL but that means rewiring right now the car has all stock wiring so it wont be an issue with repairs. the auto-manual swap is VERY straight forward on these cars. and would not make it any diffrant then working on a stock car.
now if it was a motor swap then i would run like hell just ask SmokeyV
this is pretty cool. i kind of want it but not for that much
GL
then call and make an offer… i missed where it said the price was firm.
WE also have a set of heated leather seats at swiderski for an extra 500 that could be installed and this car would then have every option
These things go for $5-6k with 250k+ miles on them so this doesn’t seem like a bad deal at all. Personally I plan to get an MkVI one day.
Saw this driving today, I see it every week in the parking lot at work and it is super nice. GLWS.
trade for a mustang ??
In regards to the trans swap, does this still have the 11mm injection pump in it? (manuals had the 10mm). If so, with a set of nozzles and a reflash, this would have more power than a stock 1.8t and get 45+ mpgs. Considering the miles, this price isn’t that bad.
I did the TDIclub Cruise wiring step, shouldn’t the cruise work? unless the clutch switch that shuts off the CC is not set right or is broken
Edit: the car is sold
