2001 Audi Allroad - Beat Rig

Well, I have been thinking about doing a “little” project for a while and I happened across this beat rig on craigslist. I loved the way the last AllRoad I had was, but I’m still jaded by the fact that the air suspensions on the things SUCK so badly. I told myself if I ever found one for cheap I would buy it and make some… adjustments.

My plans are to basically slam it hard and make it sound good. I have no intention of ever going off-road with it or even daily driving it. It’s really just a turd to mess with.

The Good:
-The inside of this thing is COMPLETE, like really complete - Books, window sticker, air compressor, cup holders, etc…
-The turbos were already replaced a while back
-It was maintained fairly well prior to me picking it up
-It fires right up every time you turn the key
-Alarm works
-The body is in relatively good shape
-The air suspension is S H O T
-ALL of the pixels in the dash work - it’s amazing
-The heated seats and steering wheel work great
-Came with an extra tire
-Overall a drive-able car

The Bad:
-The car is missing reverse… guess some drum in the trans shits the bed on -ALL of the A6 cars (and some BMWs) with the ZF auto in them… Oh well it goes forward just fine, and the part to fix the trans is actually cheap for a -drum so one of these days I’ll get to it when I dismantle the trans.
-It has a leak in the exhaust at the flex joint like all of these things do
-The air suspension is S H O T - bad air compressor, bad bags, bad everything… I fucking hate air suspensions
-Passenger side mirror is smoked
-Driver side body work is a little mangled in the front and rear
-Coolant leak in a hose somewhere, prob a lower hose that i cant see
-Leaking oil line for one (or both) of the turbos

On the table right now - 18" wheels for the snows I have because now is the time to buy wheels! Then everything else.

LOVE these cars, but they are finicky. Good luck!

You’re not kidding! The 4.2 that I had was awesome, but there were some things I didn’t want to do to it so I sold it, lol. This one has a lot of stuff to do, but it wasn’t as expensive, so I’m going to have fun with it!

Looks like some ST coil overs are on the way, and I’m waiting on a reply from someone about a set of 5x112 to 5x120 adapters to put my M3 rims on this thing. I have snows for the M wheels so this works out good!

Tomorrow it’s off to my buddies shop to have a look under this pig and get the exhaust patched up while I decide what to do with it.

Seeing it sit like that reminds me of the old 90’s Lincoln Towncars that you would see everywhere with the busted suspensions. Either way, it looks like an interesting project, good luck!

Yeah, that’s my exact first though too! It actually rides just like them as well, bouncing all over the damn place, lol.

I’ll hopefully be seeing the coil overs within the next week. I’m anxious to see if the guy gets back to me on the adapters.

I think we’ve talked about this last time I saw you.

Is this an addition to the fleet or did it replace one of the Volvos?

I rarely come across an allroad. Very cool.

Yeah this is an addition to my fleet of Volvo wagons, lol! This one is just a little beat up at the moment. When I’m done it will hopefully be functional again and have reverse… at some point when I can’t stand it anymore.

finally got around to checking the fluids and they all look ok. obviously theres still a coolant leak somewhere so i had to fill it up with a little antifreeze. got a bead leak on the left front which isnt a big deal… just gotta get to the shop to unmount that pig and seal er up. hopefully more updates this weekend… if i can wait that long!

Those stock wheels are awesome

Depending on whether the dood with the adapters gets back to me they may stay awesome on there. I really was just looking to drop the 18" snows on there for the winter, but I guess with the AWD on these things it’s not a real problem anyway

Any idea what color this thing is? It’s like a silver with a tan undertone…

Coil-overs and mounting parts are on the way!

Tomorrow night we’ll be throwing it up on the lift to see what we need to fix the exhaust leak/oil leak/coolant leak, can’t wait!

Apparently the coilovers will be on my doorstep today… just ordered them yesterday lol!

Went down to the shop this AM and fixed the bead leak on the left front wheel… not too sure why it was leaking so bad, but it’s fixed now!

Hopefully in the next week or two, this is what the car will look like:

Sick

Got the coil overs last night:

Unfortunately, the coolant leak looks to be the Aux coolant pump… UNDER the intake manifold. Oh well, easy fix!

Yeah, and both of the flex joints… SMOKED. Quick fix too though!

J, you wanna throw my coils on too? lol. for realz though…

Sure man, I have to get Smoosh all squared away with his suspension for winter, so I’m down whenever!

Wheel adapters are on their way!

looks cool bro! youve got a wagon fleet… all you need now is wagon mafia stickers! haha
