ugh the paint in that picture looks terrible lol
It is quite a bit swirly but overall not too bad. I never noticed the orange peel that the picture is showing. I miss it already. Minivan here I come!! (That is an entirely different thread that I will post soon)
Was this car repainted?
seems doubtful to me that a BMW factory paint job would look like that.
i haven’t seen any clues that would point to the car being repainted, but you never know.
i photographed a brand new (still in plastic) Corvette ZR-1 when they first came out at Glen Campbell Chevy (was it 2009? i forget). the orange peel on that thing was ridiculous. and it was obviously factory.
putting on a front plate delete strip, a trunk lip spoiler, and doing a few other small things to the exterior, but nothing much.
i did do the Clutch Delay Valve delete last night. it went very smoothly, but i was shocked to see a random star head bolt hanging loosely on a piece of some harness. turned out it was one of the bolts holding the tranny to the engine, and had fallen out (no doubt the shop that did the clutch and all the engine work in April had fucked up and not tq’d down. that one had fallen out completely, another had worked itself out about an inch, and 3-4 others were finger-loose. i don’t have the special star socket tool, but 8 and 10mm sockets aren’t too far off. needless to say i’m wondering what else was messed up by that shop…
JESUS!! I told you I didn’t trust them bastards. Did they ever give you the service records?
You saw that they broke the tank as well as the fan shroud being loose… I didn’t go any deeper. How many bolts total are between the trans and the motor?
i never had the time to go get them so i don’t have the service records, but i don’t think they’d have a problem giving me the paperwork based on what they told me over the phone.
i never saw the old rad tank as Jason tossed it when he finished installing the new one (this was done tuesday). despite an “epic struggle” (his words) to bleed the cooling system, i’m still getting low coolant messages and temp gauge is wavering. i filled it up every day between the day i got the car and when the tank was fixed, and the gauge never moved from center. going to fill it again tonight and maybe this will cure it, as bubbles might have burped up. not really sure.
i didn’t count the total number of those star head bolts as i was more concerned with doing the clutch bleed right…i’m going to guess 12-13 or so…1 was completely out and laying somewhere else, 1 was so loose that the threads were no longer engaged (bolt is 2/3 threaded), and 2-3 were finger-tight. the rest were tq’d.
95% of cars have horrible orange peal from the factory if you look at them in good light.
yes, my sentra had this on the trunk as well from the right angle. even that ZR1 i posted does too. i’m not concerned about it, i think it looks kind of cool.
What shop was the work done at?
Michael’s East Side Service in Rochester, from what i gathered.
