So my friend has a 2004 v6 AWD Tourag and the dealor said he needs his intake runners replaced as they are warn. What is this and can this be done with normal hand tools and a case of beer on the weekend ?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

i have no idea… i know the v8 touaregs had issues with the runners getting gummed up and eventually leading to the OEM plastic intake linkage arms to break… but i was under the impression these were v8 model only… so the question would have to be, how does an intake runner get worn down??? unless the manifold is seriously leaking to the point of no return, but why wouldn’t they just replace the intake manifold gasket??? seems weird bro… but then again, i have no experience of these, so maybe someone has worked on one to understand what the issue might be.
here are the linkage arms… http://gruvenparts.com/website/cart/cart.php?target=product&product_id=386&category_id=60
they do say 4.2 motors only.
what problem is your buddy having that he went to the dealer? there is a vaccum regulated actuator on the intake runner that could be causing him idle / gas pedal issues if the vaccum source is beat???
he just hears a rattling noise. It seemed shady to me too ! when i listened to him talking to the dealor they said there are valves inside the intake runner and they dont always open correctly. ( Im thinking to myself woudlnt some carb cleaner fix this ?? )
I texted Sailor. Hopefully he can figure it out and if it needs fixed he can do it this weekend.
A new intake at dealer list is $740. labor they give 1.5 hours to change.
there is only one used intake showing in the entire country-- Auto Haas USA-NJ(Patterson) 1-888-VW-Part1
they dont have a price listed.
i dunno if you can get individual parts for it. it is not showing me i can. it just shows the intake manifold as being an assembly.
if that is the case, the dealer may be the only game in town. Ask your friend if what i mentioned above is what they dealer told them parts and labor wise.
