My father in law bought this car brand new. It has since been passed down to his youngest son, and the second rebuilt transmission has just started slipping. He’s looking for a fast cash sale, or a trade for a car for a 20 year old college student
It’s in great shape, aside from the transmission, which will need to be replaced
Based on the mechanical problems, theyre looking for $5000, and they’re very firm at that price. That is half of kbb in good condition!!
Maybe if Volvo didn’t use shitty GM lumina transmissions, there wouldn’t be so many failures…
Many owners of the T6 variant reported very early transmission failures, many before 60,000 miles (97,000 km). Some owners reportedly went through two transmissions in that time. The GM-sourced 4T65EV/GT transmissions usually show symptoms of failure by suddenly slipping while in gear. There was not a recall for this issue, but the faults are widely known and documented.
read up on this. There is a class action suit and if your father in law still has the receipt for the tranny work he can probably get reimbursed. I got reimbursed for mine. I would love to have another one. Let me talk to the wife and see what she says.
Let me know what he gets in on trade and I can do that plus the tax advantage added on. Don’t mean to shit up the thread more but I don’t think the vehicle is worth 5k anyways. Tranny is 4k plus to get fixed.
Damn Ill never understand why good reputable good quality car company puts those garbage dodge, ford and chevy transmissions in them. Why cant they just build their own quality trannys like the rest of the car. It drives me nuts with shit like this. I remember back in the day i had to have my mazda mx-6 tranny rebuilt because they used awful piece of shit ford transmissions in them. Hell they sucked soo bad even the manuals were garbage and needed rebuilds often. I mean my piece of shit mazda is nothing compared to volvo but its a similar concept.
My aunt just traded her xc90 and got a new vw toureg. GLWS I think 5k is well worth the asking price. Someone can find some german nut to rebuild this tranny for a decent price.
I test drove one of these before we decided on the X5. Had plenty of power and drove great. Other than that I don’t know much about them. GLWS regardless.
