2005: A Year in Review *pics*

I could write a book for all the shit that’s happened this year but I tried and briefed it all out below as much as I could.
Only reason I’m sharing with you all this is to show you the kind of crap I had to go through.

I’m sure others have gone through similiar things so feel free to share.

OCTOBER 2004 - APRIL 2005
End of 2004, my clutch dies. Since it’s my first time doing clutch I pretty much take rest of winter to finish clutch swap.

I finally finish putting clutch in spring 2005

MAY 2005
A couple weeks later I decide to finally install my 5-lug swap and 300zx brakes

I order brembo rotors and go to pick them up. Only to realize one was a 5-lug and one was a 4-lug. Had to come back a week later to get replacement (when you’re working f/t, weekends are your only days to do anything)

5-lug done and I start doing 300zx brakes. Only to realize that the threading on the caliper is stripped when I go to insert the stainless lines.

Luckily dad is a machinist and he re-grinds my ss lines nipple (lines cost an arm and a leg from PDM-Racing).

Next I learn one of my rear caliper has a seized slider. Ended up re-using old brake pad and not replacing caliper.

Car on the road, finally looking forward to some track events and to test my 300zx brakes

LATE-MAY 2005 - EARLY-AUGUST 2005 <-- summer ruined
Couple weeks later I went for a little spin and I come to a stop sign and car instantly dies. No idea why.

Over the course of 3 or so months I replace several sensors, parts, etc. and car is still having hesitation/stumbling/idling/choking problems.
Several people come take a look but can’t figure out what it is. Took it to a private mechanic who suggest I take it to Nissan. Nissan was most likely
going to rape me and I figure I take this opportunity now to do my SR swap.

AUGUST 2005
Finally in August on way to work (1/2 way to work in the morning), I hear VERY LOUD rattling under the valve cover.
I work 35km (22miles) away so making it back home is gonna be a challenge but I eventually making it home; with the rattle

Get home, remove valve cover and I see one of my cam shims popped out. THIS was the cause of the months of headaches over the summer.

Finaly decide to do SR swap late August.

SEPTEMBER 2005
Engine is in, wiring done. Still waiting on intercooler.

Wait 6 grueling weeks for intercooler to arrive, now thinking its lost in the mail since its coming from Hawaii. (a $500cad value).

Finally intercooler arrives and the following week take car to shop to get intercooler piping made.

Car arrives from shop and I decide to connect battery so I can roll down the windows so I can roll the car in garage.
Unfortunately working in the dark, I connect the battery wrong and I blow my main fuse.
Wait another week to go to Nissan to get this fuse (no one else has it).

OCTOBER 2005
Car fires up, runs good, so far so good.

Notice my return fuel line has a hole. Great. Just what I need. I replace it and it’s holding up good.

I decide to replace all my worm gear clamps with stainless t-bolt clamps.
Only to realize I picked up one wrong size. Wait another week just to get an exchange.

In the meantime I decide to hook up driveshaft and try to drive car a bit.

Put it in gear and car doesn’t move. Forced to remove transmission the next day only to realize a bad pressure plate and pretty much dead clutch disc.

I then discover another one of my t-bolt clamps is the wrong size. Great, have to wait another week to get an exchange (shop where I get it from closes at 5pm and I work till 5:30pm).

I order an ACT clutch and while I wait for my ACT clutch to arrive, I am given a stock pressure plate to put in.

Unfortunately I learn the disc is not worth putting in and I’d rather just wait for the ACT clutch.

Now I find out my ACT clutch is going to be delayed because there is not enough stock.

I decide to test fit my t-bolt clamps because I have nothin better to do, only to realize I have another clamp that is the wrong size.
Great, another week to get an exchange.

Last few weeks of October, I have Brandon come by over the course of several weeks to do my exhaust.

Whilst doing my exhaust, I notice oil dripping from my IC hot pipe. I take it out, pour water through it and what do you know. Several pinhole leaks.
Great. The $500 I paid for my IC piping was well worth it. :ugh: (that’s sarcasm btw). The IC was a decent job, but for $500 I expected 0 leaks. You win some you lose some.

Brandon was nice enough to help patch up the holes. Exhaust finally done.

Old motor sold to a young kid who along with his dad seem to have a great passion for building/working on their project 240sx. Best of luck to them.

NOVEMBER 2005
The moment of truth. November 4th I have my e-mission test. Under Hot-rod category I passed. Finally looking forward to taking the car to work the weekend of Nov. 5th.

The rest from there is pretty much history.

Now some 800km or so later, the car is running like a champ. Idles great, clutch is holding on (it’s almost out), and so far everything is going abso-fucking-loutely great!

And that clutch I orderd early October? It finally arrived Nov. 17th

WHAT’S NEXT
December 1st, the car is finally going into storage. Where over the course of winter, I plan to make some more power. Stay tuned…
My KA-T bashing and shit-talking shall continue. I’m prepared for ownage next spring.

And here’s a little peek as to how I kept track of my SR swap. Some of you have seen this but once I have a web-host, all this will be uploaded.

PEOPLE TO THANK
Why mention these people? Because they are super cool and without them, it would have taken longer to get to where I am today.

  • Dad
  • Adam/Ed - MAF to troubleshoot KADE issues, socket for 5-lug removal
  • Scott - Helped w/ 5-lug swap
  • Mike - KADE clutch install
  • Varun (motor, parts, helped with towing for IC install, etc.)
  • Brian (borrowed MAF and ignition coil during KADE issues)
  • Nate/Ted - KADE removal, borrowed engine hoist
  • Iceman - Came by from Scarborough (lives in Ottawa) to help me diagnose my motor
  • Brandon (w/ Brian) - Exhaust fabrication and install
  • Alex - Without this midget showing up late one night, my KA wouldn’tve been installed
  • Andy - Clutch order

CLIFFS OF PROBLEMS

  • Z32 caliper has stripped thread
  • Rear caliper with seized slider

hahaha… i had a bunch of those air-fitting/air-flow valves @ the shop… and also tried using one for a boost control

didnt work.

would spike from 12psi to 15psi and then higher. only time it would hold proper boost was full open which was 5psi.

but cool to see someone else give it a whirl

I forgot to mention that I also failed my G exit road test 3 times (passed
on the 4th attempt). Waste of $225. :frowning:

10 and 2 g 10 and 2. just cuz your from bramaladesh doesnt mean your allowed to drive like a gangstar

sweet. i should make one for myself, the ending isnt all that great though, however it is a cool picture.

I’m interested in your oil cooler thats the next thing for me to do.

One last thing, your rad hose thing looks kinked open that up a bit or something yah?

The KA rad was just to suffice for the last few weeks I drove it. Bigger
and better next year most likely. :naughty:

125mph traps?

do ittttt

125mph+ in 2007 perhaps. 110-115 would be nice next year.

Wow Congradulations Gautum, it’s nice to see everything complete and it’s even nicer to see that you were able to do most these things your self. My project will be coming along soon too, right now im just gathering all the parts I need so when I start doing installs I will have many questions for you. Again congradulations and next spring will be a lot of fun!

:grouphug:

John: +1

Gonad +1, finally has a working car.
5-lug, SR, all the toys 8)

congrats G, cant wait to go for a cruise in the spring with you dude.

you worked hard and it paid off, a very clean/proper install was done, because he took his time, this should be a lesson to john. dont rush it, do it right the first time. Gonads car is killer, nobody on the board can diss it.

except the ugly champagne color
