guy i work with hooks me up a lot of the time… so he came and asked me a question about his new civic.
he wants to plug into the obdii port and ‘log’… also, he was interested in ECU tuning options he has…
problem is i don’t know shit about honda tuning / obdii … i can make iso9141 and rs232 boards and shit… but i only know how to manipulate that for the volkswagen / audi computers.
any odbii links out there on new civics? can you reconfigure the OEM ecu ? (cannot on vw’s) … hondata and the like have tuning options for 2006 civics?
Well part of that question depends on what model civic we are talking about. Mostly that comes down to the throttle by wire cars, versus the standard cable actuated throttle bodies.
In short, Hondata does have support for the slightly earlier era cars (up to 2004 RSX Type S) in which wiring modifications can be done to adapt the ecu in the newer vehicles, with a throttle body change etc. The newer 1.8’s though are simply too new though and beneath the K20Z’s and A’s in order to get much R&D.
Honda has worked HARD though, to deny hackers. They just aren’t simply filling phillips head screws with solder anymore…it’s a much more thought out “security” system just to simply gain entry. After all, it’s no secret the cars are conservatively tuned from the factory, and Honda does have a warranty to uphold.
There are some methods though, which haven’t been explored. If your capable, there is a system (experimental) that uses a MC9S12C64 processor on a PCB that you assemble. It’s fast (8 mhz internal bus speed), uses an internal map, has input and output control, and uses direct assembly-language programming. It should be compatible and a “plug in” in a sense, so if all OBDIIB parameters can be satisfied, full injector control can be had. Ignition control is another story on the OBDIIB stuff, and forget the variable cam timing control using that method.
The answer will be adapting an already existing Hondata Kpro unit to the car.
thanks… so yeah… i mean assembling hte board is cake… and the assembly language is alright as long as there is some sort of check algo or sum file to run against… again, i’m not doing this personally, it’s for a guy at work… so i’ll let him fuck his car up! haha. not me
so it’s a 2006 civic LX? so i’m guessing those are the DBW models… so he’s beat unless he swaps his setup to a cable and run a standalone type setup? or go all out and modify the load tables of the drive by wire setup?
hondata? is that a piggyback or standalone? i’m going to read up on it tonight.
I have no clue if it will help or not, but there is a ton of info here on the older ECU stuff, I just don’t know how new it goes up to. I saw “ODBII +” listed on their forum so I dunno.
there is no tuning options for the 06 hondas they are completely diffrent then the old ones the only thing out is a reflash from hondata but it is only for the si tell him he will be waiting a while honda has made it harder to mess with the new hondas especially with the drive by wire and the fact that they went to a maf and his car there is no way to put a header on it the stock one is part of the head and cant be replaced

that sucks… my car is DBW with a map and maf… there are options availible for tuning… i understand the complexity of the system… just not up to date on honda tuning.
thats a big negative there captain about the only thing out there is the hondata reflash but that is only for the si tell him it will probably be a while cause if they do something it will more then likely all be for the si first then the lower models
thats a big reason why im not to worried about engine stuff for mine that and the fact there aint much stuff out there
