Do you have the vin numbers for the bike that each part came off of? If anyone of those come up as stolen that’s going to cause the state to take the bike if they find it during inspection.
Do you have a full list of parts replaced and the original quote from the insurance company?
no I don’t. The receipts don’t say used or new. Could just claim they were new parts purchased? (sub frame, mirror, handle bar, seat cowl, left side fairing).
I have the insurance working to mail me a copy of the repair order. It shouldn’t take too long
Yea unfortunently you can’t just try to claim they are new, and they will want vin numbers for each part if its a used part.
This will be a nightmare for anyone to register. I would have to buy all those parts again, if they come up stolen the state takes the bike right there.
I’m interested in the bike, but my offer is going to be low due to all the problems that I’m going to have trying to get this on the road.
Ok, then if that will cause a problem for the buyer trying to register it. I may have to look for some one who wants to buy a track bike
I sent you an email.
Yea u can’t claim new, you MUST show proof of parts receipt from dealer when bought new and for used receipts must have vin proving where they came from.
The reason he was able to keep reg’ing and riding it is because as long as the vehicle is still on the road and driveable registered to the same owner whom it was “totalled” under with no lapse in reg/insurance you may continue to operate it. Once it has come off the road or ownership is transferred, the next time it is to be registered it requires the examination for rebuilt title.
If you can print out the reciepts of the ebay transactions from purchasing the parts and prove the ebay ID belongs to you, then there should be no issue showing the DMV the parts were legally obtained.
Yes that’s what I did I printed out the paypal receipts they show my name and address so they can easily see that these purchases were made by me. I tried calling the Division of Field Investigations Auto Theft Unit today but I was told I have to call Tuesday, for some reason they do not take public calls on Monday unless you already have an appointment.
exactly. for what it’s worth, it MAY be far more worth your while to get this done YOURSELF, being that you are the one that purchased all of the parts and the bike is in your name…by spring you should have the rebuilt title and can sell for “spring” prices.
