We just got off the phone with Tom Wegehaupt, Volkswagen’ of America’s public relations coordinator, and he has given us an on-the-record confirmation that the car will not be coming to the U.S.

Everyone in america is brain washed into either, not buying a new car…or buying some econo box labeled corolla or civic (not that they are bad cars or anything)
VW has HUGE markets everywhere else in the world so they probably don’t care about making a US spec car that would only probably sell 5,000 units a year.
You obviously haven’t ever driven a MK I Scirocco. I still can’t think of a better FWD driving experience.

That’s unfortunate that they won’t be bringing it here. I like VW fit and finish and this would probably compete favorably with the plethora of Japanese econo-RWD vehicles in the pipe.
