2009 Subaru Outback XT Limited Turbo w/ 5MT

http://buffalo.craigslist.org/cto/5887739001.html

I am offering for sale my 2009 Subaru Outback XT Limited Turbo 5 speed manual. I’ve owned this car for 2 years and am looking to get into something bigger for my growing family. It has been a really great car to own, and has never let me down.

This is the desirable XT Turbo model, offered with the very rare 5 speed manual option; given the various options, features, and color combinations, this is considered the “cream of the crop” for all Outback XTs. All the fun and performance of the STI and WRX models, but wrapped up in a mature, practical body.

Between Autotrader and Cars.com, there are only 4 other 2008-2009 Outback XT Turbo wagons for sale in the country equipped with a manual transmission and similar mileage (most a lot higher) at the time of this writing.

No LS swap. Disappointed.

XT 5 speed in this condition is a rare find. So clean, GLWS.

Hey…your names not Kanye…

I’m curious how long this will take to sell. Can’t picture a big demand for 5 speeds in the family truckster.

How many of these were 5-speed compared to auto?

I’d jump on this in a second if it wasn’t outside my planned budget for a daily. I’m only considering manual Outbacks at this point. It’s not everyone’s cup-o-tea, but the people who want a nice one of these will travel for it. This one looks real nice.

It’s certainly a niche market. The average Joe or Jane shopping for an Outback wants an automatic that will just get them to work and back. This car seems to target the enthusiast that’s a bit older but still wants to have some fun on the way to the office and soccer practice. I love it for the obvious utility and it really is fun to drive.

I was actually curious about this myself so I did some research. Apparently it’s fairly rare?

"Approximate Outback XT production numbers
***This has been a project I’ve been working on off and on for the past year, and now that I finally have some (rough) numbers I figured this would be as good a place as any to post them.

The project started with a problem, one that many of my fellow XT owners are already familiar with: Subaru never released production numbers for the Outback XT. I’ve seen many posts on many forums, including this one, asking for them, but never any results. Over the years people have written and emailed Subaru looking for the info, but all have come back empty handed. I’ve tried to use my friends and contacts in the company as well, but had no luck. Then I happened to download the Auto Zone mobile app because I needed a car part, and there it was. When inputting your vehicle info on the app it asks which engine you have, and it gives the percentage of the model from that year that has each engine option. Since overall Outback sales numbers areavailable, I was able to look at each year, take the percentages, and figure out the approximate number of XT’s sold that year.

First, the percentages. As many of us already knew, 2005 was the big year for the XT as they made up nearly 1/6th of all Outbacks sold that year. What’s truly interesting is how quickly that percentage dropped:
2005: 16%
2006: 7%
2007: 4%
2008: 4%
2009: 3%

Now, the total number of Outbacks sold for each year, according to cars101.com:
2005: 59,570
2006: 58,663*
2007: 56,078
2008: 44,262
2009: 55,356

And finally, the number of Outback XT’s sold each year based on the listed percentage from Auto Zone (with a +/- 1% in parenthesis)
2005: 9,531 (10,127/8,935)
2006: 4,106 (4,693/3,519)
2007: 2,243 (2,803/1,682)
2008: 1,770 (2,213/1,327)
2009: 1,660 (2,214/1,107)
Total: 19,312 (22,051/16,572)

Taking it a step further, I also stumbled across the stat that about 25% of XT’s were sold with the manual transmission (though I haven’t been able to rediscover that stat and I can’t recall where I found it). Applying that 25% to the XT sales numbers here’s what we get for manual XT’s sold:
2005: 2,383 (2,532/2,233)
2006: 1,026 (1,173/880)
2007: 561 (701/421)
2008: 443 (553/332)
2009: 415 (554/277)
Total: 4,828 (5,513/4,143)

To put those numbers into perspective, Subaru sold about as many XT’s in five years as Chevy sold Volts last year, and as many manual XT’s in five years as Lincoln sold pickup trucks in 2008.

*For some reason there’s no separation between the Outback and the Legacy for 2006, it only gives the combined sales number. To get the number for 2006 I did three calculations (1. The average of 2005 and 2007 Outback sales (57,824), 2. 2006 combined sales minus the average of 2005 and 2007 Legacy sales (59,254), 3. The average of the Outback percentage in 2005 and 2007 Legacy+Outback sales applied to the 2006 combined sales number (58,913)), I then averaged these three resulting figures to get an approximate sales number. Yes, I am a nerd.

A lot of that is this guy just estimating, but it’s still fun to toss numbers around.

I bought the car off a middle aged enthusiast in Hamburg 2 years ago. He told me he had people texting him from around the country, sending pictures of stacks of cash on their kitchen tables saying they wanted the car. I was lucky because he was local.

^ These guys were great to work with when I bought the wagon!

Anyhow, I am installing the winter wheels today and also doing an oil service/general inspection.

All lowball $8500 offer texts responded to.

I might have to come look at this. I’ve been missing a Subaru in my life. Time for #5

Have someone from out of state coming to look at this tomorrow, I’ll post up if it falls through.

@airhead called it. :slight_smile:

Guy either had huge balls or was retarded. Drove up with a trailer, test drive 15mph in a snow storm, didn’t even pop the hood.

Or maybe your charming looks made him feel comfortable enough not to care.
