they’re building a whole new industrial area by the Calgary airport (and nearing completion of like 5 years of construction to the airport itself) which i’ve been told will add tens of thousands of jobs to an already under-supplied market… this will just push up wages for competent people. it’s crazy out there. last week someone told me 78 people land in calgary per day to live and work. Edmonton is booming similarly if not moreso.
though i understand wanting that sense of exclusivity, i don’t think it will apply here that much. They’re not cheap, you will not see a ton of them, just as you didn’t see a lot of the older less expensive ones, and post 1980, isn’t that why people buy z06 corvettes nowadays? because they could afford 911s and just don’t give a shit and want to do burnouts rather than park at a country club and do way cooler stuff and not care that they might look kind of mid-lifedouchey?
I think some people will choose these for the heritage, but also just the ease of maintenance. Its still a Chevy remember. You can take it to one of the 6 Chevy dealers within 20 miles of your house. Virtually any other car you buy in the price point minus the hellcat or whatever mustang is going to compete will be a pain in the dick to get serviced or get parts for at that matter. Porsches are great, love the cars but you have maybe 2 dealers within a 100 miles of you and maybe one backwater guy who went to service school for them and they all know it. So you are stuck paying a premium for parts at a place over run with cars needing service because they have a 200 miles radius for a service territory. Meaning if you have an issue in May drop it off at the shop you’ll be lucky to see the car by June or July.
I have always been a huge import person car wise. Recently i have just gotten sick with wait times and inflated prices. American cars are getting better and have always been so much easier to get things done that are boring to do and I am to busy to take car of on.
interesting information i heard - they also have a “track ready z06 convertible.”
it is the only convertible supercar that doesn’t have pop up roll bars though, so it is not allowed on 90some% of the racetracks in the US anyway lol. not so track ready are we
I really loved the ZR1 when it came out. But exclusivity or the lack of it makes it a much less desirable car to have interest in. If GM would have numbered them I think they could have been a really cool collectors car. I would not expect the Z06 to be numbered because it is nothing special in terms of being rare but the limited production of something like a ZR1 should have been.
I wonder if this will be a easy engine for people to get 1Khp from once they tear into them. It still blows my mind how much power this has. mercedes S65 has less, most of the bentley’s have less (on a W12 with 2 turbos)… very few cars can advertise numbers like that and I am not sure ANY of them can say oh and you get a 10 year 100K warranty on that power train too. Hell mercedes wont even take care of C63 mercedes head bolt failures out of warranty and that is a known issue, and that cost in the same ball park as the new Z06 with way worse resale value
