2014 Corvette/C7

I believe they have been using the leaf spring in the rear suspension of the corvette since the C3.

So that means the c4 c5 c6 all have it including Z06 and ZR1.

I actually had to go back and look at the car again when I read “stingray.” I wouldn’t have thought it was a “stingray” style retro design just by looking at the pictures, just an evolution of the C6. Seems more like a marketing thing to me IMO.

I see thats the case, but why are they using leaf springs over a coil spring. lol

Body lines are a bit more of the Stingray. The way the back slopes to the ass end is more so like a stringray than your recent corvets with a flat trunk section.

I feel I need to ask a gun question on this form these days to get an educated answer from someone. lol Still looking for someone to explain why GM went with leaf springs. I know its been the thing, but why? Maybe the GM dealer or someone could shed light on this to why it would be better than a coil.

Interesting old article

Summary:
-Cheaper (Corvette is supposed to be an economical alternative to a supercar)
-Lighter
-Works as an anti-roll bar
-Failure rate

As one of my friends stated, why would the race team change this all the time to a coil setup. (not saying you know the answer to this) Its kind of funny they would change the suspension completely like that if it was such a great design.

I’d also love to see testing results on the car. Stock with leaf. Stock with coil. What the difference would be.

I has more questions. lol

Why is it that when ever Chevy test these cars out, they always put an R compound tire on when other car manufactures do not. Its sad to see an 80k car doing 7:24 around a track with street tires, when a 150k car is putting 7:20 with R tires on it.

When is Chevy going to put track times down with the tires you get on the car like all the other manufactures? lol

The article you posted says otherwise.

What are the drawbacks for the Vette?

-They are expensive. We normally don’t think of leaves as the expensive suspension but in the case of the Corvette, coils would be cheaper.

It’s hysterical how clueless you are.

Almost every car tested, especially in “Ring” laptimes, is a specially prepped car, usually with slick or semi-slick tires (DOT-R). Chevy is no different. They all do it, BMW, Ferrari, Chevy, Nissan, Honda, EVERYONE. Chris Harris has an amusing article about this.

Colors:

I’ve checked…each color looks hot to me

Wait… did they finally get rid of that plastic shield / radiator thing that sticks straight down under the front bumper?!

It’s still there, just on the right and left, not the full bumper width.

With a coil-over shock setup you can easily and quickly adjust the ride height. That can be very important to a race team.

You can adjust the ride height with the transverse leaf springs as well. The ends of the springs have adjustable tip pads to change the trim height which can give you roughly 1" of travel depending how the vehicle was aligned at the plant. The main reason people that track their c6’s switch to coil overs is that it’s easier to dial in spring rates due to spring availability and they can fine tune the damping.

I like it. Maybe I’ll buy one in the future. Debating whether I’d trade in the M3 for one

I love these threads

I FUCKING HATE LEAF SPRINGS BECAUSE DOMESTICS HAVE THEM AND I DON’T KNOW WHY I HATE THEM BUT THEY SUCK

From those color angles, I really don’t like it.

I need to see one in person, I guess.

Yeah, thats about how hes acting with the situation. I personaly find the car to be a very well built car. It puts down great numbers and for the price, the only car I can really see being worth a better value would be the GTR.

My buddy seems to just down talk the car so much but when you do lap times and pricing, its a win all the way with the vette. figure 4 seconds slower around the ring than a GT2 but the GT2 ran for 240k over an 111k car. 4 seconds is not worth an extra 100k+ to me. Then when he tried to say about how the leaf springs are outdated and horrible, I told him to take the money save and get suspension then.

The corvette is the only Chevy I would ever consider because of putting all their smarts into that over any car.

I love it! This is the first Vette (or really domestic for that matter) id ever consider owning.

Every time someone posts a corvette ZR1/Z06/whatever and it posts some amazing lap times someone always brings up the leaf springs that “don’t work”

It’s like the GM and interior quality comments from the 90s or Hondas and vtechhhhhh yo

I dunno Josh, I think they did an awesome job advancing the car with a more progressive style while maintaining the corvette look. The side of the car reminds me of the C3 sting ray in that it looks a bit longer (if that makes any sense) and has a smiliar stance. I think it only shares one part with the C6 so it’s new and fresh. Looking at the car from any angle, you can easily find difference between the C6 and C7.

:word:

Exactly. People cant just take in the fact that these automakers achieved what they just did. Its like the conspiracy people. “Oh, it never happened”

Whatevs bitches, last model Viper ACR is still the fastest production car around in the ring in the world losing to 3 other “race” only cars. Can’t wait to see the new SRT go through.
