240SX

A guy has a 240SX for sale, still awating more pictures. It’s silver, 1989, has 170,XXX KM on the body, and 70XXX on the engine, engine swapped from a 93. He’s asking $2600 but I think I have him down closer to 2200. I think Imight pick it up and work on the car a bit instead of getting a 180SX.

What would be needed to say install a SR20DET into this bad boy?

is the body good on it ? sounds a bit cheap but how many kms on the engine before it was put in …

Good question to find out. Body seems alright, as I said need more pics. And I’m going ot be test driving it first, so i am meeting him halfway (From stoney plain to calgary, we are meeting in red deer hopefully)

He says it’s only surface rust currently, no eating rust yet, but I will check it out.

$$$ + time.

Well what are some things I’d have to be doing to install it properly, And I’m good with time, I’ve got lot’s haha. Any extra parts i’d need?

just buy a 180, it will be cheaper in the long run.

How so?

You can get a decent 180sx for 7-8 grand with an SR already. The SR swap alone from autodream is 4500 $…

I’d swap it myself, and autodream costs like $3000ish for a redtop SR20DET

then add 1500 for all of the miscelaneous shit you will need and there is a 180sx.

plus you get suspension, wheels and more.

You really don’t want an stock suspension 240sx with an SR.

I’d be changing that as well…lowering the car and such.

Like I wouldn’t probably do the swap until close to summer or end of summer. When I have more money saved up.

Or buy this now, drive it for a while, and sell it after F&F comes out :stuck_out_tongue:

I just want a starter car mainly. I 'd be happy with a KA24DE engine for a while. I might take this depending on the quality of the car and import something later.

there si 2 ways to look at getting a car from japan! u can buy a done up on for cheap but it will be bagged or u can get a stock one with minimal stuff done for around the same price which i think is the best thing to do, unless u buy a stock car and swap in parts that u want! what i am trying to say is that if u think about it u will spend roughly the same amount on either a jdm sr 180 or a usdm sr swapped 240, it is sometimes touch and go with jdm cars u really NEVER know what ur getting!

That’s one thing I’m wary of…because I won’t know if it’s bagged or not, or what has been done to the car, or even get a test drive until after I buy it. Compared to a 240SX where I don’t have thsoe worries, i can take it for a test drive to see if it’s all good and physically inspect it. I might buy this as a temporary car and get a 180SX sometime this summer. Go commission for more money!

Haha and sell my car with the “Fast and the Furious” Tax around summer time :stuck_out_tongue:

I wish I could check my email at work…I can only get on this forum lol

taking it out tuesday maybe for a test drive. Needs a little bit of rust work…as long as it’s not eating away yet and jsut surface then i’m good

That car has the notorious strut tower rust. If it isnt too bad, you may be able to fix it. But if there is that much rust on the strut towers there is rust elsewhere. Get him to take the front drivers side wheel off and look at the wheel well. Or look dwn the side of the strut tower in the engine bay to see if there is any rust. Trust me, its not something you want to fix.

Haha yeah i’m bringing a flashlight (A bright one) and maybe a mirror for looking in hard to see locations. As well as checking the floorboards

Look at the strut towers.

It has been repainted and there is still rust on it.

Personaly i would RUN away.

That is a main structural conponent of the car and it will not pass most inspections if it is too bad.

Yeah. Say it was rusty, and if I wished to repair, how much would I be looking at to get it rewelded? (Maybe to make him sell it for less)

More then the car is worth man…
