After two frustrating days, searchers in Missouri have found alive a 3-year-old boy who wandered away from his home in the rugged hills of the Mark Twain National Forest, the Associated Press reports.
Joshua Childers, who slipped away from his family’s mobile home near Arcadia in rural southeast Missouri Monday morning, was in remarkably good condition, the AP says.
Donnie Halpin, a search volunteer, found the boy lying on the ground after he spotted stray dogs sniffing at something Wednesday afternoon. Halpin told the AP that he wasn’t sure at first if he was alive and shouted “Hey, Bud.” But Joshua “jumped right up and grinned and me,” he said.
“I said, ‘You ready to go home?’ He said, ‘Yeah,’” Halpin told AP.
Halpin said Joshua wasn’t crying or complaining. “He hung on to me pretty tight,” Halpin said. “Outside of a few scratches, he was in really good shape.”

ST. LOUIS - A 3-year-old boy was found in rugged Missouri woods Wednesday afternoon, 50 hours since he wandered away from his rural home three miles away, authorities said.
A search volunteer found Joshua Childers in a hollow, or dry creek bottom, in rugged national forest land, Madison County Sheriff David Lewis said.
He was in fair condition based on an initial assessment at a hospital, Iron County Hospital CEO Ed Gast said.
Spotty rains hit the area while the boy was gone, and temperatures dipped as low as 48 on Tuesday morning but rose into the 70s Wednesday. More information wasn’t immediately available on his condition or the circumstances of how he was found.
“The parents would like to thank everyone who has assisted in the search and treatment of Joshua and they ask that their privacy be protected at this time,” Gast said.
Joshua slipped out of his house before noon Monday, wearing a T-shirt, sneakers and a pull-up diaper. His parents searched about 45 minutes before calling police, setting off a massive search by authorities and volunteers.
“Today we brought in professional rescue people,” he said. “We tried to cover everything again and widened the scope.”
They searched by land grids and water, with dogs, divers and sonar equipment. Rain and cool temperatures worsened search conditions.
Lewis described the Mark Twain National Forest as “really rough country,” consisting of steep ravines, creeks and rugged rocks.
“I’m so happy, you can’t believe it,” Lewis said. “I’m going to go home and take a shower and go to bed.”

Rick Stockham, a neighbor of Joshua’s grandmother, told KSDK-TV in St. Louis that the woman had been "begging God to see that little boy alive one more time.
“She got her wish,” he said.
Joshua’s father works an overnight shift and was home sleeping late Monday morning. His mother was watching the child but was briefly distracted. That’s when the boy wandered away from the home near the small town of Arcadia, about 100 miles southwest of St. Louis.

If that doesn’t make you appreciate your kids…

LULZZZZZZZ Nope

Glad he was ok though.

from a trailer park? He was probably better off in the woods

when you hear 2 days at first youre like…wtf…thats it? who gives a shit…

but imagine not knowing where your 3 year old is for like 30minutes, seriously

MIRACLE!

LOL

LOL

But yeah, it good to hear news like this.

Thats why you have more than one kid.

At least one of them will rat out the other if they do something like leave the house.

Hes the next Bear Grylls.

Pretty tough conditions for a 3 year old, rain, sub 50 degrees in a diaper and t-shirt? Wow.

yes this is why it got to me …

As soon as I read the “slipped away from his family’s mobile home” I . I was thinking, if the home is so mobile why didn’t he just take it with him? HAHAHA seriously the kid should have permanently peaced out of that joint.

They failed to mention the rest of the story.

“Searchers found the boy in a home made tree fort. Under the fort were berry bushes, which the boy explained were for both food and protection. A short distance off in a nearby creek they found a fish farm, built out of twigs and sticks which contained nearly 30 full sized bass. In the tree fort we found a wolf, which the boy domesticated and became best friends with. When we tried pulling the boy out of his fort, he ordered the wolf to attack. The wolf killed 5 officers before the beast was taken out. The boy was crying, but we know what is best for him, and being with his family in their mobile home is exactly that. On the way out, searchers found what looked to be a rabbit farm and smoke pit. There were 4 rabbits cleaned and strung being smoked, they were almost done so searches ate them later after the boy was returned home. The other 50 rabbits in the cage were released. We are glad to say the boy is home safe now with his mom, dad, mom, dad, sister, mom, cousin, brother, dad, sister, and girlfriend. The boy escaped from home for 3 worrisome days. He father said “I was able to buy trees mores beers wid da baser gone!””

They should have kept him on a leash.

Where the fuck were his parents? 3 year olds don’t exactly move fast. I blame the parents for this.

you sir must not have kids … if you want come over ill let me two year old show you how fast he can get away from you in… I bet in less than 30 min you will find out

at 3 yrs old and still wearing a diaper?

hmmmmmm

the diaper… is not really the issue … but yes some boys are hard to get out of the diapers @3… i dont know the ext age of this boy if he just turned 3… i fell its ok but if he is going to be 4 in a week … diff story

Some boys potty train later then girls do. I don’t know why though, what little boy doesn’t like to try to sink the cheerios?
