Saw this in pop-sci mag (and have been meaning to post) and holy shit. Analog landscape photos approaching 4000 megapixels. Cool story, amazing shots.

In the actual magazine, they have examples of the 100x zoomed segments… clear as a bell and as detailed as can be.

Reportedly, in this picture You can get a “passport quality headshot”.

This brings wheres waldo to a whole new level

wow. now thats something

But really… it takes photography and it’s potential scientific, cultural, and economic uses to a whole new level too

An entire crop of land, or an entire building (exterior) can be cataloged in one shot.

There is a bicyclist on the end -or- middle of this bridge and You can make out his facial features (in the mag).

I’ll try to remember to scan it this weekend.

when… if ever… will a camera like that, be affordable?

geez, that is some impressive pixel count

prolly never.

the camera is a very one-off custom that the rocket scientist made in his garage.

film is 18"x12" caches iirc… $1200 a pop.

I have no clue about developping, but the prints it generates are measured in feet… not inches.

That is freaking cool.

That is pretty damn sweet. I was looking at the one of a B-29. The view of the engine was damn impressive.

all thesame pic:

A final zoom to about 0.05% of the original area. Note the individual leaves at the extreme left of this image and the sharpness of the logo on the left sleeve of the shirt. The logo text, the person’s lips, ear lobe, and the smaller instances of “bunching” in the shirt all exhibit clear definition in the 1/4" to 1/2" range. Consider this when viewing the full image at the top of the screen.

wow man thats nuts

Geez…
