48/2(9+3)

HAHA of course there’s this:

https://youtu.be/bwpWw-iVKHc

please excuse my dear aunt sally

we can all agree that the parenthesis is first, so let’s rewrite as 48/2*12

Let X=48
Let Y=2
Let Z=12

The whole issue boils down to this
X/Y*Z

PEDMAS should actually be written as P E (DM) (AS) indicating that multiplcation/division and addition/subtraction when not specified by vertical fraction notation, are to be performed from left to right.

So X/Y*Z = (X/Y)Z != X/(YZ).

288

LOL @ the hitler video.

It is 288 though.

It’s clearly 288.

I know because I learned PEMDAS all three years I was in the 5th grade.

At least you remembered it!

I know. Stupid people. Always having to learn them somethings.

PEMDAS

48/2(9+3) <- parenthesis (inside you follow order of pendas again too)
48/2(12) <- no exponents, multiply
48/24 <— divide

2

I don’t even know if people are trying to be funny anymore. But this is your mistake right here. When it comes down to just multiplication and division, you do them in the order that they are given from left to right (just as you read the English language). Therefore, you would divide 48 by 2 FIRST to get 24 and then multiply 24 times 12 SECOND, to get your final answer of 288.

Why am I only seeing this picture now? LOL

Answer is 2… according to pemdas.

It’s either multiplication OR division - whichever comes first from left to right. So it doesn’t matter if it’s pemdas or bedmas. In this case the division precedes the multiplication reading from the left, so you do that first.

BEDMAS sounds like “Bed Mass” in my mind, therefor putting the image of a bunch of people in a bed praying. Which is super creepy.

PEMDAS (what I’ve been taught) reminds me of candy. I like candy.

I’m using this clusterfuck tomorrow with my studyhall, it’ll be interesting to see what they get.

I love my TI-86. Been using it since High School.

ORDER OF OPERATIONS
The TI-86 follows the order of operations, however the data must be input correctly.
Recall : Order of Operations follow:
Parenthesis
Exponents
Multiplication – Division (left to right as they occur)
Addition – Subtraction (left to right as they occur)
And hence PEMDAS

ti85 ftw!

I do miss tetris and jezzball on my calculator.
