Disassembly is the easy part Iām doing holiday stuff, but I was informed at work that I āwork too much.ā I have waaaaay too many hours of vacation remaining so I have time to burn.
Iāll have a thread coming soon, but Iām not gonna hijack yours.
Question - are you putting in new carpeting or re-using your old stuff?
Fit and finish is not a fun thing to screw around with.
And a lot of reverse engineering. Iām squeezing a big block with a 2004r tranny that doesnāt work with a standard mount. I had to order a $200 fabricated mount for that. Then all the linkage for it. Plus Iām redoing the wiring a bit, and that will be a fun job.
The repro weatherstripping fits like crap originally since it is so hard compared to original. So many days in front of a heat source to soften it up. Right now the doors close perfectly with no weatherstrip. Add weatherstrip and there is a huge gap
And I donāt have the rear shock relocator in or the 2" drop Hotchkis springs in yet, so I canāt order my new wheels yet
3 months go by damn fast.
I just want to fire the bitch up and hear it scream
So how was it laying that fatmat downā¦fun stuff right lol ā¦shits mad sticky. Looking good man ā¦I have to get my ass out in the garage and some work done!
It wasnāt that bad. I tried it 2 ways. First time on the driver side, I did one large sheet from firewall to trunk. Itās a lot harder that way. Passenger side I did multiple sections. You can overlap. Also in tight corners or bends, cut some of it with a razor blade and you have more flexibility.
After a day, it stiffened up and made a noticable difference.
I bought 100 yards of it and only used about 40 so far. I still have to do my doors and trunk area.
Btw, not sure how much you are ripping your car apart, but get the fatmat in when you have it stripped apart. Plus it will help if you have a heated garage. I did it on a somewhat warmer day, but you have to push and prod to get it to fit better.
But it seems like it will be worth the install of the fatmat.
Aiming for March. Hopefully. Busting my ass to get it done. As long as I donāt run out of $$$
Yeah i allready fatmated my carā¦ did all the interior last yrā¦This year is painting the front subframe, shaving the firewall and putting a motor in the car. Im going to hold off on the disk brakes and wheels till next yr. Money ownz meā¦
You can get disc brakes from a 70-72 Chevelle / Olds for pretty cheap and they are a huge upgrade over drums. Iām going to do 4 wheel disc next year too. For now front disc and rear drum.
