69 Camaro resto - It's ALIVE! - no 56k

Disassembly is the easy part  Iā€™m doing holiday stuff, but I was informed at work that I ā€œwork too much.ā€ I have waaaaay too many hours of vacation remaining so I have time to burn.

Iā€™ll have a thread coming soon, but Iā€™m not gonna hijack yours.

Question - are you putting in new carpeting or re-using your old stuff?

All new carpeting, seat covers, headliner, and accessories. I redid door panels during the last restoration, but they are in great shape.

I wish I had some vacation time to spend in the garage. I have 3 months to get it finished for the show.

You are in the home stretch though Joe - I havenā€™t even lined up on the grid yet.

Keep 'em coming.

Home stretchā€¦ hahaā€¦

Fit and finish is not a fun thing to screw around with.
And a lot of reverse engineering. Iā€™m squeezing a big block with a 2004r tranny that doesnā€™t work with a standard mount. I had to order a $200 fabricated mount for that. Then all the linkage for it. Plus Iā€™m redoing the wiring a bit, and that will be a fun job.

The repro weatherstripping fits like crap originally since it is so hard compared to original. So many days in front of a heat source to soften it up. Right now the doors close perfectly with no weatherstrip. Add weatherstrip and there is a huge gap :frowning:

And I donā€™t have the rear shock relocator in or the 2" drop Hotchkis springs in yet, so I canā€™t order my new wheels yet :frowning:

3 months go by damn fast.

I just want to fire the bitch up and hear it scream

:meh:

Well, uh, yā€™knowā€¦

ā€¦youā€™re farther along than I amā€¦

(trying to make ya feel a little better here :stuck_out_tongue:  )

Few updates.

Here is a pic of the updated dash cluster with guages and fabrication for the new guages.

It still needs to be cleaned, pained, and reassembled.

Nice progress!

:word: looks like its still coming along good. should be ready to roll for spring

Mid March is the deadline. Iā€™m busting my ass to get it done.
Hopefullyl I donā€™t run out of $$$$ in the meantime

So how was it laying that fatmat downā€¦fun stuff right lol ā€¦shits mad sticky. Looking good man ā€¦I have to get my ass out in the garage and some work done!

Excellent stuff joe! I canā€™t wait to see this car

Like the gauge install, gonna look factory.

I finally got out in the garage to work on mine. I think the bugā€™s starting to bite harder now.

It wasnā€™t that bad. I tried it 2 ways. First time on the driver side, I did one large sheet from firewall to trunk. Itā€™s a lot harder that way. Passenger side I did multiple sections. You can overlap. Also in tight corners or bends, cut some of it with a razor blade and you have more flexibility.

After a day, it stiffened up and made a noticable difference.

I bought 100 yards of it and only used about 40 so far. I still have to do my doors and trunk area.

Btw, not sure how much you are ripping your car apart, but get the fatmat in when you have it stripped apart. Plus it will help if you have a heated garage. I did it on a somewhat warmer day, but you have to push and prod to get it to fit better.

But it seems like it will be worth the install of the fatmat.

Aiming for March. Hopefully. Busting my ass to get it done. As long as I donā€™t run out of $$$

Yeah i allready fatmated my carā€¦ did all the interior last yrā€¦This year is painting the front subframe, shaving the firewall and putting a motor in the car. Im going to hold off on the disk brakes and wheels till next yr. Money ownz meā€¦

~Way2Slow~

Andā€¦ $$$ being the great equalizer!

How much will it run to do your FatMat?

You can get disc brakes from a 70-72 Chevelle / Olds for pretty cheap and they are a huge upgrade over drums. Iā€™m going to do 4 wheel disc next year too. For now front disc and rear drum.

FatMat was a little over $100 to do more than the whole car.

Call them and tell them that you wanted to get in on their $89 special bulk deal and they will probably drop the price for you.

They didnā€™t ship it to me in time to do my headliner :frowning:

Been doing some small stuff, not worthy of pictures, but an update

Reassembled most of the instrument cluter. The rest gets installed tomorrow

'Bout time you get back to it

Have you ordered your wheels yet?

Nopeā€¦ Not yet. As soon as the springs are in and I can get a true measurement for them. Trust me, I want to place that order!
