I agree with you in that they are a little cheaper when you go for the big street hp… and it might be lighter, but IMO if you are worried about that you don’t have enough horsepower 
Where i see the 8.8 used a lot is in jeeps and other 4wd rigs for off-road stuff.
Not only is the 9" heavier but a lot of people will argue that it robs power more than an 8.8 and actually isn’t as strong as a properly built 8.8:dunno:
