I need to know what parts list i need to instal c clip eliminators and aftermarket axels in to my ford 8.8.
the 8.8 was pulled from an 86 mustang gt and has factory posi.
I will be running 4.10 gears
the motor is a chevy 355 making 450ish hp
transmission is a built powerglide with a 4000 stall
estimated car weight is 2500 - 2700lbs race weight with my big ass in it.
the rule book says I’m going to need them, eventually
I want them either way. The last thing I want to do is to cheap out on the rear dif. if im buying axels im buying eliminators ect.
I dunno exactly. the car cut 1.6’s with 125 less hp on the 8.5’s 10.50 slicks in the near future.
theres no myth. If you knew anything about drag racing, you would know, you build the rearend once, or you change it on a regular basis.
I saw the time slips for the car when I bought the bare shell. the guy had a mild 350 in it with junk mexican heads, had maybe 300 - 325 hp
Im putting in 450+
Is there a reason your shitting up Gen auto, offtopic is that way V
I’m pretty sure the new direction was to be a more automotive forum, so how about people with no info shut the fuck up and sit the fuck down, adults are talking.
I went 1.51 with a 10bolt and 340rwhp…No fancy power glide, race car, or slicks…
I wouldn’t worry about modding the 8.8 rear end for drag racing that info is out there…I would worry about the mounting points on the 8.8 for whatever your planning on installing it in.
LZ, that’s a solid 60’ time! What tires were you on? Tire pressure, big burnout, lauch rpm???
Karter, if the rules state you HAVE to have the elimiators, then I can understand. However, not going that route doesn’t necessarily mean you’re cheaping out…it doesn’t take much to build a solid 8.8 that will hold up to some serious power levels.
his post wasnt even fucking english. it didnt even contribute to the fucking thread. it was shitting up general auto.
I dont know what fucking fairytale land he lives in, but nobody needs to pretend they know shit about someone elses car.
Does he even own a fast car? why would he even step in? Figures that when you want to ask a SERIOUS question on nyspeed in the serious sections of the forum, you cant get anwsers
and long time dick riders get away with shit. “the nail that sticks out gets hammered” blah blah blah blah.
You ever think large numbers of noobs dont stick around because of the bullshit that continues to go on repeatidly because some people didnt get the memo that this was a car forum and not lets hang out at buff state and fucking rage with out ubrf buddies?
Lock this thread, I figured I wouldnt get anwsers like always. I dont even know why i bothered, out of the entire wny racing scene there is 10 fucking fast cars on this forum. dont give me that, well the other 10,000 race car guys dont have a computer bullshit either.
If your looking for something strong i would go with a dana 60 or a 9 inch ford.Sure you can go fast with a 10 bolt but how long will it hold up.I also have 60 fts in the 1.50 range with an 8.5 10 bolt.I would think they may hold up longer if your not using a transbrake but who knows how much more they can take.
summit/jegs sell rebuild kits for the 8.8. just ordered one for my rebuild. replaces the shims, bearings and hardware. you may want to get a dial indicator to check the backlash (clearance between pinion and ring gear teeth). search the web, there are a lot of how to installation write ups if you are planning to do a rebuild.
a rear end is a rear end, if its in a fucking vega, or a rail, or a honda, its the same rearend, its pushing the same ammount of weight, i didnt ask for help on how to mount it, i asked about fucking axles and c clip eliminators.
the car is not fucking relevant to that only the weight, motor, and tranny combo is, and tire combo, all of which have been discussed.
I clicked your link btw.

its like pulling fucking teeth to get an anwser and it shouldnt be.
I’m going to start going around gen auto and giving these “opnions” and talking about completely irrelevant shit
Sorry but you said “what else do i need to INSTALL them”
Or you just wanted what would be the best choice of parts to run in your rear end, and you know how to put it in?
yeah man i meant what do i need to instal the clip eliminators and aftermarket axles. i dont know if there is special bearings or races or anything of that nature.
The rearend is in the car, but i know as soon as i break 10.99 they want aftermarket axles, and 10.50s = c clip eliminators.
I want to build the rear end once, i got a smoking deal on some ford racing gears, if i explode a rearend it will cost me a ton to replace the gears, so id rather do it right once.
