ron scklnar had the last x in n huntingdon
sold it for like $150000
we went to kirbans 20 yr molly reunion
547 was there and ron was talking about how smart he was and how much of an expert on gnxs he had crowned himself
richard clark blew rons cool by telling him the truth…
his car was almost perfect except he had the wrong valve stem caps(wrong year and color)on his car
ron blew a head gasket and said Richard didn’t know shit(see the irony here)
all the Buick boards gnx members that were there made fun of it
and was documented on the threads above
kanut i was gonna give up on this thread and write it off but what point of mine are you not understanding… Ron ordered his car brand new and that how it came. and i’m sure the others at BG that i saw with grey caps were the same. they are 100 % correct in that they got them that way from buick and didnt change anything. its clear that how they were supposed to be and how people got them are two different things. so can we agree that there is a middle ground and there is not a right and wrong or are u gonna take it to the grave that GNX’s came with black valve caps and thats it? … i’m not saying ron is great but who crowned richard the GNX king? Maybe he has all kind of parts, and all kinda of documents… i mean cause he can afford to. to me the king of the GNX were the people who’s idea it was and the people who designed it… not a collecter. just like Doc watson is the hurst olds king.
so i started to question all the other stuff he’s said… about synthetic oil for one… why do they prove time and time again that sythetic is infact better in its breakdown properties. its doesnt break down in the heat, doesnt break down in the cold. sythetic stays consistant… so when its 20 degrees out and you go to crank ur car… sythetic isn;t sittin there all congealed like conventional motor oil… if systhentic wasn;t superior why would companies like rolls royce and ferrari use synthetic since the late 60’s? why did the 90ZR1 secifically call for the use of synthetic… (there was a plate mounted under the hood that called for the use of mobil 1 synthetic) just saw on horsepower tv they took a brand new crate motor, ran it with conventional and ran it with redline synthetic and the redline pushed out 8 more hp than the conventional. so i mean he can say for people to buy it “if it makes them feel better” but the fact is, its flat out better.
synthetic is great oil but has no zinc or sulfer in it to become a sacrifical layer for metal on metal contact(like cams)since the epa has imposed standards
remember
Richard isnt a genius because he has millions
he has millions because hes a fuckin genius
but yeah my point was thou if because of the lack of zinc cars that ran synthetic all of the sudden showed significant wear…people, auto makers would stop using it… but in their testing, engines that ran synthetic had virtually no wear as opposed to a motor than ran conventional that was worn out. This is what those companies do for a living… they test their shit out to make sure its right… you are paying for that research and developement.
Here’s the story I’ve heard from a few people that worked for GM back in the 80’s, the grey valve stem caps were used during the wheel/tire assembly process so the machine can locate the stem. Also from what I’ve been told the cars were not supposed to be sold with the grey caps, scince when they were delivered there was a prep package in the cars that included a set of black caps that were supposed to be installed during final dealer prep.
that was my point from the begining… assuming GM and ASC and all the dealerships were 100% effective on doing this. If you ask me… according to this, cars with grey cars are more original than the black caps… as the grey’s were on there before the black ones, which was before dealer prep. i wonder how many people found a bag with valve caps in the glove box, console, etc… so really in this case there is what could be considered “original but not correct” and “correct” if i was a judge how could i deduct points from someone for having what mostlikely was over looked at dealer prep but is 100% original to the car.
the people i would really like to talk to is not richard or ron or any book but the people who build these G cars, the ones who sold them, the ones who serviced them… they were there. And i have, i’ve talked to many people at olds shows, monte carlo boards, buick boards, people that sold these cars at dealerships… i wont deny richard knows more about the Buick GN/ GNX than I… but to know them you gotta get the big picture which i obviously do. It was cool to met the buick big wig DISTRUBUTORS… but i met the people that actually made and designed oldsmobile stuff… bill porterfield(who designed the olds aerotech project cars), Doc watson (who was makin performance cars when half those buick guys were suckin on their mommies tities). hell while u guys were busy taking aluminum supports off “junk” chrome bumpers i was talking to the president of the GS club Rich lasiter, the event organizer john chamberlin and the guy who onwed Hemmings muscle car of the year!.. my point to this is, you can box urself in by just studying GNs and hoarding GN parts… thats what he does… he hoards parts… while it may be cool to go there and see all this stuff… to me as a g-body lover, its wrong… i’m not a millionaire… greg is not a millionaire… hell most of us that own these cars are not millionaires… all he;s doing is making it hard and impossible for us to find and afford parts for our cars. Thats bad for the hobby! Like i said he;s not a bad guy… i disagree with some of his practices liek the parts cache… but in the same regard i think its awesome as hell he wants to teach people stuff like how to build their tranny… and in the same respect me and him are the same… we are both more into whats original than the performance side of it. The fact that money is not an issue for him should make him wanna help people find that part so they can enjoy their car. Thats what i would be about… “hey you can;t find a scoop for ur hurst olds… i got 40 of them, gimmie a hundred bucks and send me some pictures when u finish it” … but thats me… i dont just enjoy my car… i enjoy everyones car… yes it competetive but its supposed to be fun too. what fun would BG or any other event if everyone was so wrapped up in their car that no one lent a hand to someone who broke down or some one who wanted to discuss what interior company to go with… its not about the cars and the parts man… its about the people.
they dont test 20+ yr old engines bob-
new engines are not the same -bearings are different metal-tolerances are really tight- you cant even scratch todays bearings with your finger.
lassiter was corrected by clark also because he said just use gm assembly lube which is still not the correct ratio- but at least he can see the need for zddp. bury your head in the sand and when old cars older then 1987 wear the cams/pushrods/ wrist pins/rocker arms- youll know why -but doing research then will be too late.
just remember that .r.c. was there in the beginning once again and told you so
you would be a wrong misinformed judge because you should have known about the disservice the “super smart dealerships who you think know more then the factory and people like rick hunt-(who i called btw)that built the cars”- have just done to you or someone else’s pristine car by not correcting and doing there job of taking off the factory assembly line shit- that was designated for a machine to recognize- and putting the right part on for you.
still doesn’t make it correct bob
lets take a $100000 hemi and switch the lug nuts and put the wrong wires on it and let your local dealer-that wants to keep your car original-because thats what they really do-give a 18yr old mechanic the task of finding/installing parts on it-then you judge it- make sure you thank them afterwards too
he know more then you,the buick boards, the people that sold them and most definitively the people that serviced them-those people dont know shit or did they ever care to-except jay that wants to cash in and he still dont know as much as Richard.
he lends hands /advice all the time
hers two recent examples
he told you about the lack or zinc for older cars- you didn’t listen- but choose to argue with no facts or test results which he spent around $25000 of his own money doing
he told ron to fix his cap issue- which are still the wrong year because they don’t have the tip on them-you didn’t listen-you want to call it original because someone at the dealer forgot to replace for ron.
which is way more then anybody you listed above would have known or cared to tell you.
what did YOU back up? you and ur God dont have pictures of all 547 GNX’s leaving ASC… so you are asuming they all left with black… without proof of all 547 you can’t write off my comments as completely false and you can’t support ur claim as totally true.
i’ll run with the oil companies on this one… they have a lil bot more wrapped into than RC… they said unleaded gas would destroy enignes at one time too… still waitin for that to happen.
what did i back up??
motherfucker i did all the legwork for you
in calling people, posting links , trying to satisfy you stupid paragraph stories
they are supposed to be black . period. end of fuckin story-
until you contact people at asc like rick hunt- like i did or go find the gnx registry and gnx owners(meaning more than ron)that know its supposed to be black and post up your so called proof with links(like i did)
then
your feelings/comments/theory’s don’t mean dick
547 gnxs way different then 3000 whatever s with special paint and stripes
as far as Richard and knowledge goes on gnxs vs the never wrong gbody king,
your playing miniature golf against tiger fuckin woods-
i already said i don’t care what color they are supposed to be… MY POINT IS WHAT DID PEOPLE RECIEVE ON THEIR CARS!!!
minature golf against tiger woods? what the hell kinda shitty anology is that? minature golf is more about a lucky bounce than it is strategy.
547 GNX’s way different than 3000 Whatevers? an engine and a rear suspension is way different? whats its matter anyway… do you have a GNX, no. do i have a hurst olds…yes.
