I have a 94 ranger light green 4.0 4X4 5 speed manual ext cab. color is light green/teal rust is mild.
The clutch and transmission was replaced 2 years ago but recently started to slip when the engine came up to operating temp. As I type this the truck sits in my garage with the transmission on the floor. The clutch in the truck is 80-90%, flywheel is good, pressure plate is good, TOB good, clutch slave is good. The reason for the slipage started when the oil was changed last. I put 5-30 in it and apparently the thinner oil when heated is thin enough to start leaking from the rear of the intake manifold and making its way to the clutch causing some slipage.
In the process of removing the transmission I snapped the left (driver side) manifold studs. I attempted to drill them studs but they gave me a really big fuck you and are going to have no part of being put back into service. headers can be had cheap from jegs or summit and would not be a huge deal to fix. I just don’t want to deal with this anymore and want it gone NOW. I will be reinstalling the trans tomorrow but the Y-pipe will not be going back on because of the broken studs. truck is driveable and other than the exhaust and intake manifold it is in good overall condition for its age.
If you want to take the truck as it sits with the trans in the bed you can get it cheap. if I have to reinstall the trans so you can drive it home it will be more and if I have to fix the exhaust and intake I will probably end up keeping it because it has many years of service life left in it, and it has been a great truck overall.
