if you are getting a new engine go with a stroker, a 408 is a nice one. But then when you go that big you need a healthy set of heads, like a brodix track 1, dart pro 225, or afr 225s. Then if you are building that stout of an engine might as well go with a dart block so you don’t have to worry about splitting the block especially if you every plan on spraying the engine.
Then when you finally make all that power you need a transmission to back it up a 408 is going to make 5-600 ft lb of torque so a t5 isn’t going to cut it so you need a t-56 or tko 600. Then you will wreck your rearend with that power so you need new axleshafts and diff and might as well do a set of 4.10 gears as well, oh yeah and a clutch too. Oh yeah now we need to plant that power so we need slicks and skinnies on wheels. then if we plan on making more than one pass we need a cage and harness. The fuel system will be needed to converted to carb pickup and fuel pump.
there is alot of stuff to do here.
since you are asking for advice answer how fast you want to go and how much you want to spend??
If you need any help getting an engine combo together give me a call… And keep in mind i build some nutty stuff, so i can build you about anything you want…
definetly go with the 351w. my friend has one in her car and it still has the 302 fuel stuff and it screams… i can only imagine what it is going to be like when its carb’d… but def go with the 351 and bore it out and charge it and NOS!!!.. lol. that would give you something wicked fast and still streetable, but whatever you good luck man.
