My Dad picked a Blazer up last night as a sort of project for us. A friend of the family wanted this truck gone quick. (long story short - she wanted it gone so her son wouldn’t drive it when he got out of jail today). So we picked it up rather cheap but it needs some repairs and a ton of TLC. But the thing is, neither myself or my Dad need another Blazer. We both already have one each. But my uncle Dave has been going through some rough times. He got laid off of his job about a year ago and has been working odd jobs and trying to find another good job since then. During this time he has been diagnosed with an extreme case of arthritis and had some bad re-actions to medicine they tried with him. Now that they found a medicine that works well for him he is back in the job hunt - but his current pickup is well past it’s last leg and has been crawling along for months. He doesn’t have the money to fix it, let a lone get another car. Finding a job without a reliable car sucks - so we are going to fix it up for him and ‘trade’ him for his current truck. He doesn’t know it yet though. We plan to surprise him when its finished up.
The truck itself is nothing fancy. Stock 98, 2 door, 4x4. The motor runs strong but the interior looks like a hobo lived in it for years. There is also some damages to the body that I should be able to fix. It will be nice paint practice for me at least. It also needs some work to the front steering, but that is not anything major either. 4 new tires and an inspection and it’s on the road.
Once we trade him for his current pickup (94 S-10 regular cab, short bed) I will get to keep that truck. If the transmission is in decent shape I might use it in my V8 swap instead of going manual. Or at least use the auto while I save up some cash. It has the same damn blue interior that I am trying to replace though. Go figure. Not much else is any good on that truck or worth keeping other than the motor/trans.
CLIFFS: My Dad and I got a Blazer to fix up and give to my uncle as a surprise. He has been down on his luck in a few ways lately.
