a few questions from a newbie

hey, i just joined up and i have a couple questions that should be pretty easy for you. if i swap the SR20DET that i want into my opel, i will be needing a new rear as the stock one won’t be able to hold the power… its very weak.

  1. whats the width of a 240 rear end? with or without tires

  2. is the rear end live or independent?

also, if someone happens to know, or can get dimentions off an SR20DET i could use them… what i would like to get is: bottom of oil pan to top of valve cover, widest spot on the whole thing, including manifolds and turbo, longest spot on just the engine, not including the tranny, and width at about the level where the oil pan bolts to the block if you can get at that area. oh, and if possible, length from the back of the block to the shifter location just to make sure the shifter won’t be at my elbow or something stupid like that

if anyone could do that for me, it would be awesome, thanks.

Hey man.

Awesome … Opels. I haven’t seen once since the 80s … and I was in Germany.

Anyway, I can’t be much help, but I do know a guy that has done all the figuring out you need.

He’s got a 69 Opel GT with a ca18et/R200 conversion.

The R200 is the differential out of a 240SX (which is IRS)

An SR and a CA are interchangeable, so the process would be almost identical.

He runs www.club-S12.org

and his name is Dan Aho.

Just make a thread in the coffee shop about the Opel and I’m sure he’ll get back to you quickly.
