90 240sx, full sr20det front clip

If I had 90 240sx (non-hicas, fastback, 5-speed), and a sr20det full front clip. I wanted to know if I was to swap the KA out and put the sr20det in using all the parts from the clip would I have to buy all those extra things like the radiator, BOV and etc… Im on a budget so I gotta find the cheapest way to swap in the sr20 in the 240. Also besides the obvious modifications for like the A/C and heater, would there be alot of other things to modify. Also I’m planning on adding aftermarketing stuff when I have enough money. Just wanted to know around how much it would cost to start off with, I also want to do the swap myself.

A little introduction please. See the New Members Section.

Also read the sticies posted in the How-to section which will answer the
most basic of questions, you just seem to have asked.

… uh, gwah?

the weight difference betweent the two engines is very little, like 3-4 lbs.

The reason why the front end does sit higher is because most people who do SR swaps also chuck a lot of heavy stuff such as A/C and relocate the battery to the trunk, which is why the get the 4x4 look on their car. The weight difference between SR20DET and KA24E is only 3lbs. (www.sportcompactcarweb.com)

The SR power steering lines won’t help as the Japanese car is RHD so they go to the other side of the car on the steering rack. You’ll have to find 91+ S13 PS lines, or do without PS.

Very good point though… SR, 240, and budget shouldn’t be in the same sentence unless the word “big” or “unlimited” is in front of budget

“sometimes”… cool… I think.

These clowns? Both those “clowns” have sr 240s. I think they might know something about it.

everyone just look at ed with pitty and walk away

This is the funniest thing i’ve read in a long time.

So I take it that you are an angry alcoholic?

god. this post is funny.

its funny but it doesnt help me. I will put a decent amount of dough into the swap but I want to do it all myself for the reason that I want the car to feel like I personally made it how it is and also so I wont have labour cost too. Anyways I live in Montreal and I’m planning to do the swap in july, if anyone wants to point me in a good direction to where to by the engine, and all that stuff I need, I would appreciate it. Also I will buy all the raditor and stuff thats mention in the FAQ section of the forum.

The way i see it… is you have a front clip… nothing should be missing… thats why its a front clip…and thats why it cost that much more.

you just basically ripping out everything inside one car… and putting it in another…its the same chassis… the only thing i can think of is extending the harness so it can sit in the right spot… or if your lazy i guess you could mount it under the steering column if it fits there LOL… correct me if im wrong here guys… but that seems logical, no?

my knowledge only goes towards subarus and im learning a lil more about the 240 everyday… keep on reading/research.

or give someone a few G’s to make/put one together for you…

Hey man. As for the rad and other little parts you need. Contact my buddy Phillip at JDM-P, there is a thread in the Car Chat section, and he can get ALL the things you want for a kick ass price. He has a used JDM parts store that only sell’s hand picked parts that are in mint shape. Plus as a SON member you’ll save 15% off your first purchase over $500. Just say that Bruce (thats me  ) sent you and that your with SON’s.

Ok the pwr steering prob. You can, VERY CAREFULLY, hand bend the lines to fit to the SR pump from your stock rack. They are aluminum and do have some give. Just take your time doing it and you’ll be fine. Check the sportcompact web site as they put anSR in a 90 240sx. There will be pic’s there on how to bend the lines to fit. Click on swaps and look for Project Silvia. The other option is getting a 91 rack from a wreckers with lines and pump. Either choice will be fine and save you a few bucks.

Welcome to the board and good luck. Easy 8)
