A.S.S. Promo car

whichever is lighter

Obligatory New Salem Saab reference joke.

Do the Toyota. Hell, even a 2wd Toyota truck would be cool.

Yeh I totally didn’t read. Thought you were looking for other options

Nice shop!

That’s all I have to add to this discussion. :lol

Definitely the Corolla.

saab

What kind of suspension does the saab have?

front double control arm with spring and shock seperate…

rear…solid axel with spring…

no P/S quick ratio…

do the saab it will stand out better. then buy my 13b and put it in the rolla, as it’s the only logical decision. lol

This is real… may need to pull some help from the Wood Bros @ CRC

some ideas to help ya maybe…

You know I am on board for this. I wanted to see this get done for a little while now. Let’s make it happen!

I think the corolla would offer you a better promo oppurtunity as you can actually find after market performance parts for them and swap some parts out with more popular toyota parts such as levin suspension pieces and trueno stuff

Although I understand…buying parts is not nearly as crafty as building them. plus a 73 sonnet with a hyabusa motor will definately be a headturning question generator…

a toyota is a toyota…buying parts is easy…we like the road less traveled…

in fact once completed you’ll need to drive this puppy! its going to be wild beyond your imagination!

If you want it to stay together, put it in the lightest car. And then strip the most crap off it you can on top of that.

WHY?

case casting on that bussa motor’s output shaft doesnt like to hold together when it needs to propel much more than the weight of a big bike. Remember it was designed to move about 500 lbs of machinery. Granted I am sure it was slightly over built to support a bit more.

researching sandrails and what not, I saw a bunch of case failures from heavier machines. Like 2 seaters, 1200-1700lbs. Reduction boxes take some of the tq from the case and help this alot they say so that could be an option. If you can get the car’s wet weight and driver around 1200lbs might be the goal to start with.

Clutch is going to hate life too. A drift car is nothing like a oval car where you can clutchless shift gears on the bike motor most of the time after the initial slip/launch of the car. You will be clutch kicking it and slipping/dumping it all the time. Further impacting the case issue mentioned above.

How much does the mini mod weigh? How long do you think it would last if you tired to drift it around for a day? Any failures from the other guys running them?

this is not an attempt to not build something… its just putting the variables on the table ahead of time to think it through completely.

And here is another variable… Why not make a tube chassis, and hang the Corola body off it? WAY lighter, stiffer, better suspension, better CG, better components.

$300 in DOM tubing. Pinto manual rack. Corola rear end, on the stock little leaf springs for simplicity sake. Make a simple king pin or double A arm solution up front and a spindle. Use some motorcycle front brakes on the front hub. Rough and tumble oversized gokart, with a car body.

case ideas and what not.

I’m thinking that if you want to capitalize on your Saab expertise and establish the new shop as a Saab specialist in addition to the other work you do, the Sonnett is a no-brainer choice.

Sir I must respectfully disagree with parts of your post. that motor was already in my mini mod…that weighed just over 1500# with a full wing on the top.

all day long on or next to the rev limiter…

clutch…already upgraded with heavy springs…

no i dont need some semi truck frame you’d build out of 1/4" or bigger…lol

ill have you and bro over to assist on this… BUT I WILL FOLLOW THIS LIST!!

roflmao!

I forgot that mini mod turns both ways in the winter time. If you are clutch kicking it all over the ice shocking the case all the time and havnt broken anything yet I guess toss it in something and call it a day then.

Isnt the wheel base close to the mini mod already? Just swap bodies. LOL

What about reverse? Whats the car going to do? Want to try and put plates on it?

Can i wire the headlights? When you start tearing into it im sure we can make this one happen quick!
