Saab hopes to make a new compact model at its plant in Trollhattan, Sweden, Reuters reported last week.
Saab’s managing director, Jan-Ake Jonsson, told the Swedish news agency TT that the compact car would compete in the same segment as the BMW 3 Series and Audi A3 and be built on a platform similar to that of the next-generation Opel Astra. He did not say when the car would go into production.
The Trollhattan plant currently produces versions of its Saab 9-3 and 9-5 models and the new Cadillac BLS.
Maybe this’ll replace the 9-2X since GM sold its stake in Subaru to Toyota? Who knows. The Astra VXR has a pretty nice 240 hp turbo Ecotec under the hood.
