Can I use my AAA to tow a vehicle that is not registered or insured?
Anyone know?

I swear it has to be on the road. I think I remmeber the tow truck driver asking me one time. Some drivers care, some dont
That was sort of my impression to but I cant risk it and hope for a good driver.
They are only suppose to tow it if it has valid registration and plates. Sometimes $20 takes care of that if the car doesn’t though. Like already stated, it depends who you get.
Make andy carry it.
I’ve had guys actually look at the sticker and plates to see if they match. Most don’t give a shit though- just throw a random set of plates on it, and make sure it doesn’t look like it was just pulled out of a barn. Every once in a while I end up with a duplicate reg sticker from the dmv, that I keep for this very reason. I always used all or more of my allotted tows every year between my cars and friend’s cars, until I bought a Honda.
WOW…
I’ve had AAA tow my parts cars home, and tow my brothers piece of shit cars around town.
None of these cars had plates, and some didn’t have hoods or bumpers.
The one dude just took digital pictures of the one parts car to claim that we didn’t say he damaged it.
They gave me a hassle for not having plates and registration on my car when I needed a tow.
I haven’t used it recently.
I have used it alot in the past ~5 yrs for parts cars, bro’s POS’s etc.
Always required to have plates on it. NEVER had a guy check the sticker. Just be personable to the guy, and you won’t have ANY problems with skecthy tows.
here is the deal
the real AAA guys will care, they go by the books, but at night time, they contract out the tows. Those guys don’t give a shit because AAA is gonna pay for the tow either way.
AAA fronted the bill when I has my civic hatch shell towed to Hybrid for some welding. The guy leaned under to attach the chains and laughed. Just put a plate on it and call them at 9pm. Tell them the engine went poof and the car is not driveable.
but there is no engine so maybe i should wear a top hat and black cape and say the engine really went poof and i cant remember the trick to get it back :gotme:
mine had no engine either man. Maybe when you call them, tell them the engine was stolen and needs to get to a place to be replaced. They can’t deny you a tow based upon the reason the car is unable to move. Only the reg/ins. The night guys don’t care. They don’t work for AAA.
Thanks…I might give it a whirl…otherwise i will just rent a dolly tomorrow and hunt down a truck
which andy?
:gotme:
I was denied a tow from AAA when I made the mistake of telling them the reason for the tow was due to no engine in the car. They said something to the tune of potential theft…
most any tow driver shouldnt care, unless they arent in the mood on a bad day. mine checked the sticker against teh plates when he saw no exhaust on it but was told by AAA dispatch it had no brakes…
it depends on the driver. but no plates and any scetchy reasons and they car deny it if they feel like it.
plus the main issue was i could only get towed by a flatbed, and those are always in need more so then regular tows. they had to use boards to make sure the car wouldnt rub anything on the way up. i still had to lift the rear to get it without taking the bumpers off.
i since have put higher springs in back.
