advice on a replacment part

last night i went to go to take my 95 neon DD outta storage just to start her up, took her around the block and everything was fine

went over the engine bay with a flashlight just for the hell of it and saw a small hairline crack in the exhaust manifold, its prolli been there forever anyways

the cars 15 years old and i thought for the hell of it i could get a replacment oem cat from modernperformance.com for $65 and their exahust piping for $70

im going to replace the manifold with something but the question is, should i get a USED long tube header and just skip out on the cat with the new exhaust piping (still have a muffler in the rear)

OR

should i just get a small header (i dont wanna use another used neon old ass manifold) and a new cat with the piping and same muffler

car isnt loud, only mods to it are 15 inch rims off a turbo plymouth laser and a cherry bomb, sounds nice and american

i dont race this car or try to act like a hard ass with 100WHP

opinions please (dont say something arrogant and tell me to junk it cause its a neon, better than a fucking sunfire or cavalier)

leave it alone for now. It probably has enough soot in it that it doesn’t leak. You could have the crack brazed. Or buy a new manifold or header.

Honestly if its not leaking or making noise just leave it. Its not worth messing with unless you expect it to fail.

Check under the motor to see if the exhaust hanger/rubber is broken. They ALL need to be intact otherwise the stress from the weight of the exhaust pulling down on the manifold will cause everything you i nstall to crack.

If you can get something cheap, then throw it on but its a daily so its really not worth your time and money. Fight the natural urge to modify EVERYTHING.

ugh. just found that the cause of my exhaust leak on the integra, was this as well

i’m going with an new OEM manifold with my dealer hookup down here. i don’t feel like running into problems with a header burning things or not clearing shit, etc, and it’ll be less than some DC dealie anyway
