okay, when i press my brake pedal while the car is off…it goes down all the way…i then let go and push back again…and it goes down all the way…it doesn’t build pressure…the pedal stroke is always the same. and today when i opened the hood and left my door open…i was pushing the pedal and i hear air hissing in the engine bay. could this be a torn diaphram in the brake booster?
i’ve also noticed when idling…i press the brakes hard and fast and then the rpms go down…and when i repeatedly pump the brakes during idle the car seems it wants to stall. could this be a vacuum leak with the brake booster?
*UPDATE
i went to look at it now and …i tihnk i’ve found the source of all my brake problems.
i look down at my frame…and i see the paint is being raped by brake fluid…came from between the brake booster and master cylinder.
now that i kno that theres a leak…that prolly leads to why my brake fluid is low = parking brake light (!) stays on -> which leads to one of the calipers not gettin any brake fluid/pressure? heres a few pics, any suggestions on what to do? replace booster and cylinder?
also…does not having a heatshield on the exhaust manifold affect the brake booster/cylinder in any way?
thanks
Yeah i’d recommend replacing the booster and master cylinder and obviously bleeding the system based on what i’m seeing…might as well fully inspect your braking system at the same time for any other problems and get it all done and off your mind in one go. Your brake light stays on only because it detects your low brake fluid situation which fixing the above will remedy as long as there are no other brake fluid leaks.
Your lack of heat shield above the exhaust manifold shouldn’t be a problem, i’ve heard of people removing these without issue.
Good luck.
EDIT: Also check for vacuum leaks, specifically your brake booster line, that may be causing your braking/RPM drop symptoms…
