The Albany Society for the Advancement of Philanthropy is a non-profit organization with the express purpose of encouraging others to do well by their fellow man. The society (ASAP for short) was founded in August of 2004 by nine young professionals, and has since grown to over 50 members, with its second chapter recently started in Northampton, MA. ASAP was started as a way to give back to the Albany area in a way that was enjoyable for all involved; to encourage philanthropy and have a good time while doing so. As the ASAP logo famously states, members are asked only to “relax and encourage”. This motto captures the ASAP ideal: that it is possible to do well by your fellow man while having a good time. ASAP believes that encouraging philanthropy should not be seen as a chore, but as something enjoyable and rewarding.
ASAP is not dedicated to any specific philanthropic endeavor. In fact, as their name states, they are dedicated instead to encouraging others to engage in philanthropic activities in the Albany area. ASAP is thus able to help those most qualified to help those who are in need. For example, in the last 4 years of existence ASAP has helped raise funds for the American Stroke Foundation, donated goods to the Christian shelter of Albany , sponsored numerous American Little League Teams in Albany as well as becoing a leading benefactor to the Albany Damien Center. ASAP has also adopted a portion of Highway along Route 9 in Latham.
Besides their philanthropic pursuits, ASAP is also a social club. Members meet once a month to see their friends, plan activities, and discuss club activities. ASAP also hosts a yearly cruise along the glorious Hudson River in the spring and a black tie Fall Ball gala in the Autumn months.
We could get a Shift group going if enough members were interested.
This could help get some of the forum aggression out :lol
I hear it’s still going on as somebody I know went a few weeks ago, and apparently the people there are no joke.
Any interest?
