An unnoticed death.

Interesting but sadly true…

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who
has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was,
since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He
will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
Knowing when to come in out of the rain; Why the early bird gets the
worm; Life isn’t always fair; and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend
more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children,
are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but
overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy
charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended
from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for
reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the
job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly
children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental
consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could
not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an
abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses;
and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a
burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to
realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in
her lap and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by
his wife, Discretion, by his daughter Responsibility and by his son
Reason.

He is however survived by his 4 stepbrothers;

I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I’m A Victim

Not many attended his funeral because so few realised he was gone.
If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do
nothing.

lol

sad but true

I thought you were talking about Common, the rapper, for a second there.

Should be a sticky.

+1

Very sad indeed. :meh:

ugh this is so old

the average person today is soooo much smarter than the average person 50 years ago

But are they really?

Yah.

No, but he needs to justify the wrong direction the world is heading somehow.

lol.

agreed. Common sense and wisdom have gone bye bye becuase who needs common sense when you can blame everyone else for your problems and sue them for it?

LOL good read

I think the general population gets worse everyday :gotme:

How many people waxing poetic about how stupid this generation is… have had dealings with the previous generation at a similiar age?

Every generation gets mature faster. And part of me wants to say we’re getting more ethical, in this country I mean. Think about how prohibition lead us to the depression, think about child labor in the late 1800s, think of all the other recessions.

Even you Jay, you’re pretty young and you’re wise (albeit a rightwing soapboxer  ). Are you saying your grandfather at your age knew more of the world? Knew more of the economy and finances? Knew more about anything?

We have a broader access to informational resources, and through society as a whole we mature in high school more than the previous generation mature in college.

You’ll probably say kids in high school aren’t mature, which they aren’t, but they’re going through more issues earlier than any other generation. And it’s trials and hardships like that that make somebody wise.

It’s easy to look at a grandfather or father and they seem like they’re coming from a wiser generation, but that’s only because they’re older. At a similiar age back in “their day” they weren’t any smarter than us.

So let’s not pretend like we’re all getting stupider and that’s why the world is shitty. The world has ALWAYS been shitty and ALWAYS will be shitty.

can trace it to at least 5 years ago, and every single time everybody says “yeah omg that’s so true lol”

WTF when did this happen

teens suspended
from school for using mouthwash after lunch;

You’re confusing common sense with intellegence.

As far as intellegence goes, you’re right in that we have more knowledge of how things work then we ever used to. This will continue on throughout the rest of time as we learn more about how things work.

However, thats’ not common sense. Common sense is just that…a sense. It’s based on factors other then being able to calculate through a difficult equation. It’s based on being able to make the right decision in any given situation. I think the general movement away from good principles, good parenting, respect for other people and the general feeling that rules are bad is causing us to not think using common sense.

Some of the smartest people I know cannot handle the day to day interactions with people because they have no common sense.

^^^^^ Bingo!!

bullshit

ok, everyone needs to stop getting their panties in a bunch about this. what happened was mcdonalds wasnt selling enough coffee so they hired a company to see what they could do to make their coffee better. this company said, among other things, to serve the coffee at a retardedly hot temp (180 degrees), and mcdonalds started doing just that.

when the woman burned her legs on a completely way too hot cup of coffee and sued, the case was decided in her favor. mcdonalds has since reduced the temperature of their coffee and no more lawsuits.

was it right to sue? no, but she was a frail 83 year old woman if that changes anything for you.
