And you thought Buffalo knew how to blow money on stupid projects...

Buffalo has nothing on Niagara Falls.

42 million for a new terminal at an airport that has 3 inbound and 3 outbound commercial flights per week.

12.2 million of the city’s own money, money they got as their share of the casino revenue. Money that they could have spent on anything the city needed because unlike government funds it comes as a check from the Senecas. The only stipulation being that NF submit some sort of plan to the state to prove the money isn’t going into the mayors pocket. The state put that requirement in when they figured out what a scumbag Anello was.

This is a city that has potholes that could swallow a car. My coworker who sits right next to me had steam coming out of his ears when I told him how much money his city spent on this.

Yeah and the stupid flights to myrtle beach are very expensive compared to BUF…

Why anyone would fly out of niagara falls eludes me…

what you guys need is a monorail!

lol at monorail

Just call Niagara Falls North Haverbrook now!

Haha, love the reference.

Exactly what I thought of when I read this…

I love government spending. Or not.

did the say last year they didn’t have enough plow trucks to effectively clear the streets?

Also lets now drop the “Niagara” part in the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

In the long run, it could actually add competition the BUF and cause a fair war between some airlines.

Well working at the airforce base in niagara falls… they get 6-10 flights in and out through FEDEX, UPS, and what ever the Kitty Hawk is to name a few…

Welcome to NYS. Where we know how to waste money like no other state.

Its not competition, They are both owned by Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority. Its not owned by the city of Niagara Falls.

so more like a conflict of interest, gotcha.

Honestly, anything that might keep the airforce base there longer is good for me, but, it was a total waste of money. Nobody needs to fly, the last time your car stalled it didnt fall out of the sky :).

A civilian terminal has nothing to do with the AFRB staying there any longer. Moving Army assets onto the base will, but a terminal sure won’t. The old terminal was a fucking joke, this is just a sick joke.

its kinda like the mule with the spinning wheel…

The monorail is such a perfect comparison. Springfield fell into 3 million dollars of free money when Burns was fined for dumping nuclear waste. Like children with b-day money they ran out and spent it on something stupid.

Niagara Falls gets a check for 12.2 million from the Senecas… well, you see where I’m going here.

Heh Heh. Mule…

Seriously. fills some damn potholes. i hate NF so much.

I flew from NF to FL last spring for 99 bucks round trip… I’m not complaining.

They obv need to add more flights but it does make it easier for people to get right to NF. Who then can spend their money on the Canadian side…

First, NFTA does not name prices, there would still be a “fare war”, granted enough airlines did even come to Niagara.

2nd, I’m all for improving Niagara, Yes, this was an expensive side project that does not directly immediately benefit the City, but it is impressive at the funding they received other than from the city alone. I think improvements to the previous terminal would have been a wiser investment.

3rd, there is a market for traffic here, mainly from Canadians. Next time you are at the Buffalo Airport, take note of how many Canadians are parked there. This saves them 1/2hr+ of driving time, and with more publicity, Canadians will think to book through it. Flights out of Hamilton or Toronto are ungodly expensive.

Finally, being a Pilot, I really don’t think this makes too much sense as far as location wise. You have a fairly busy airport serving a medium large size base (BUF apt). That is all that is needed for an area of this size. Being closer to the Fallls is a nice convenience, but there are already existing measures in place to get people from BUF to the falls, a bus that costs 2 - $3.

In terms of travel time by plane, the Niagara airport is only about 5 minutes flying time difference. Why would an airline want to restructure their whole program for an additional airport, where as they have one in place FIVE MINUTES south of there? This MAY bring in additional carriers that don’t currently serve BUF, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

I do have high hopes for the Charter side of things, and low cost airlines. The MB direct and Florida routes are great, we want to go there, they want to see Niagara (and probably visit relatives up here, considering half of us moved there) Also, I’d love to see a trans-atlantic route brought in, the 10,000 ft runway is very accomodating, hope it works out!
