angel food ministries

Anyone ever buy food from them?

The wife has for a couple of months now.
IMO, it’s not outstanding quality, but it’s cheap.

A few friends of mine were talking about this. I would feel like I am taking food from poor peoples plates.

Too much effort to have to go there and deal with crazy church people. Good deal tho.

Wouldn’t you be helping out more than taking? Where do the proceeds go that they collect on the food? I’m sure they arent doing it for free?

A few of the local churches were offering this a while back. I was told that when others buy in, it helps them get additional discounts towards more food.

Haven’t you ever been to Sam’s Club or BJs?

Buying a pound of meat/pasta/etc is a lot more expensive per pound then buying the 10 lb box and they probably get a lot of bulk discounts for some stuff

Well, if you do not pick up your food it gets donated to those that can not afford it, so you could use it to help poor people.

I also follow the bulk discount logic. They only ship what you buy. There is no mention of a limit on quantity available. Besides, have you seen how fat some poor kids are.

It takes all of 15 minutes for the wife to get the food.
She brings a laundry basket and they fill it up.

I’m still undecided on meat quality. I have had some good and bad.

Keep meaning to do this, seems like a great program and besides volunteering, ordering is the best way to keep it going.

edit: and from what I understand they order through the same vendors that restaurants would order from (sysco, etc). That food is so much cheaper than retail, it’d blow your mind to see how little restaurants pay for food.

You can tell with some of the food that it’s cheap.

Many countries around the world refuse US export foods. Mainly because of the way we process it and due to many Genetically Modified Organisms. The EU will not take our grains, starving countries in Africa and South East Asia will not take our rice or corn and most recently Russia has ordered a halt on imported US chickens due to the way we clean them with Chlorine (Russia is the largest importer of US chicken which is an 800 million dollar annual amount) http://www.worldpoultry.net/news/us-warns-russia-over-chicken-imports-ban-4745.html

The fear of GMO foods due to the lack of scientific research as to its safety for human consumption has put a lot of strain on the United States main exports (food) and subsidized crops, the situation is getting worse as more and more of the world is objected to the use of GMO, hormones and antibiotics in their food.

The reason I bring this up is that it is no surprise that programs are offered like this because we as a country need an outlet for most of the food that would go to waste and products we, the tax payers, subsidize. The poor get the poorest cheapest food and it CAN be very detrimental to the health and well being of that socio-economic group.

I applaud the program for making the efforts to feed people the best they can. People who are starving have eaten worse, example, Cambodians who ate tarantulas to stay alive during the years of the Khmer Rouge. This group can do so much more to truly help out poorer people by offering an Organic only menu in their selection.

Seeing as they are non-profit it should reduce the costs of the organic selections making them more affordable to those who might not ever consider such options and providing an overall healthier diet naturally rich in nutrients and anti oxidants. I do not doubt that by doing this we could reduce the overall money spent by the government, you and I, on health care for preventable problems such as Type II diabetes, obesity, heart disease and some forms of cancers.

So, The walmart effect applies to food too.
Maximum profit at minimum cost. By the time the sheople catch on, it will be too expensive to go back.

Wal Mart has actually advanced a lot of the organic industry through such large purchases. Customer demand drove wal mart to being investing in it. Many organic foods can be purchased at Wal Mart at slightly less than area prices. I personally wouldn’t shop there though based on just that.

Poor countries refusing food cause its modified origins? Yea thats about as dumb a thing as I have ever heard. Look at us in the US, were one of the fattest countries in the world. shits good.

Oh well, more food for us fatties.

lol nice

A good friend of mine gets food from these guys. Her sole source of income is SSDI. The food that I’ve tried from them is actually pretty damn good. In fact I just fried up some of their chicken fingers last night and they tasted better than Tyson or Banquet.

Your friend is on SSDI and you are taking her food? Asshole.

I’m not taking her food…I’m cooking the food for her and I. She has terminal brain cancer and because of the golf ball size hole in her brain, and the resulting seizures and dizzy spells associated with it, standing over a hot stove is not a very smart thing for her to do. Oh and btw…I spend more of my hard earned cash helping her out than the government does…Asshole.

boxxa is a shit head. dont worry about him…

:gay3:

Fuck you dick.
