another back on two wheels thread...

Three weeks ago I picked up a 2001 Suzuki GS500e for $1200. I had to put about 200 into it due to a junk battery and some stator related parts. Its a large step down from my '03 636, but I wanted a bike that was a little tamer for various reasons.

Anywho, its pretty sweet. My short term plans are to get the shocks rebuilt (leaking!) and just drive it. I want to mess with putting in an HID bulb in, but Idk if I can remotely locate the ballast to under the seat because there is no room near the headlight.

I was thinking of doing clip-ons, but I want to keep a fairly upright ride position. I really want to change the tail out for a two piece rear seat someday, but all of the swaps I have seen dont flow well (new rear vs old front). A fork swap to get dual discs wouldn’t hurt either. and ya gotta love having a 160 rear tire too!

as for the blinkers and mirrors, gay I know. But they work and I dont have an easy alternative. I will probably do bar end mirrors, but I dont think the stockers look too horrible and I actually like seeing behind me.

gs500 forums say that a -2 sprocket in the front does wonders for getting the front tire up! I gotta get the shocks rebuilt first. (anyone wanna change them for me?)

Check out my thread on my GS500. I had a lot of work done to it. I had the Katana rear tire put on by notching the frame to allow for a slightly larger back tire. Clip-ons, Yoshimura exhaust, frame was chopped and many more.

I still have race cams for this bike and a few other things if your interested. I have a bunch of parts from my spare motor that I never got rid of if you need anything else, just pm me.

nice pick up these are a ton of fun… ib4gsforsaleduetowantingmoarrrrrpower.

gsxr suspension might be worth looking into, clip ons for sure, new rubber, then to a track day… and enjoy it.

yes please. links?

been there done that:

while I definitely miss my 636 I just want more of a cruiser now a days.

^ i know… i remember that bike

Seeing I totally forgot to reply to your text. No I don’t know anyone but I bought my lame DOT helmet for like 30 something bucks .

:word: I bought it off him and it was definitely a fun bike. The clip-ons did make for a more bent over ride, but I preferred it that way. Bar end mirrors worked really well too I thought. Good bike to cruise around on though for sure.

I have a gsxr rear shock/spring I’d sell yah if you are interested.

what would this do for me?

It is fully adjustable, so you can dial in the bike better…make it firm and do siqqq wheelies because the back won’t squat.

eh, I had one of those on the 636 and never messed with it. I really want to find a rear subframe and seat off of something to put on there.

I bought the bike the way it was and I put alot of work into it myself. These bikes are so fun and the parts are really cheap. The best part on these bikes is from like 88-06 they never changed many parts on the bike so they are all universal. I’m pretty sure everything except the plastics.
